Hello everyone 😊

it’s not quite sunk in yet that I’m pregnant. Very early stages mind at 3 weeks 5 days.
I’ve done a number of tests and feel like I need to keep testing until I feel any different! As Boots pregnancy tests keep showing faint positives and Clear Blue a stronger positive.

I was in GP today for something unrelated and mentioned I’d had a couple of positive tests. They didn’t even want to discuss it further, just told me to fill in a form for them to pass on to the local midwives.

Is this normal? Do you usually hear back from them after a few weeks? I feel more nervous as I’ve found out a week before we’re due to fly to Orlando.

first time pregnancy if you can’t tell from the 101 questions 😊

Congratulations! It’s quite normal now to self-refer to your local maternity services. You will then be contacted with a booking appointment where you meet with a midwife and plan your pregnancy care.

ETA: Booking is usually between 8 - 10 weeks.

You won’t hear a thing until 8 weeks ish when you’ll get a booking in appointment. 3.5w is extremely early. If you have any concerns you can speak to your GP/local early pregnancy assessment unit.
dont forget to update your holiday insurance.

Congratulations! I think it does vary a bit depending on where you live. In my area, we fill in an online form at 6 weeks, and then a midwife gets in touch about 8-10 weeks, and they book you in for a scan at 12-14 weeks. FYI that the first 12 weeks can feel a bit lonely - you have no idea what's going on, you won't have a midwife for ages and it's a bit crap. You found out very early so it will probably feel longer!

Where I live, you're under care of the GP until you're 17 weeks for symptoms - stuff like cramps, morning sickness. They'll either treat you or refer you to Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) at a local hospital if it needs more specialist attention.

After that, you're in the care of midwives/consultants at the Maternity Assessment Unit at local hospital (stuff like reduced movements, bleeding - a bit like A&E for pregnancy).

Good luck and enjoy your holiday! 🍀

I found out ridiculously early.. I booked a private “early scan” around 8 weeks, but didn’t have my NHS scan until 12 weeks.

I filled out an online form on my hospital’s website and got an email about 10 days before my 12 week scan, so quite a wait.

I phoned the GP with my first but they weren’t interested at all and just told me to self-refer and implied I was wasting their time even ringing up.

Both of mine were IVF pregnancies and I only self-referred after the early scan at 7 weeks. I sent in the form on Monday and received a booking appointment for 9 weeks and scan appointment for 13 weeks the next day. It might take longer to hear back if you refer yourself earlier.

Thank you everyone!

I have found out early as only 4 weeks today but have had a digital confirmation too now so feeling quite real! I’m sure the weeks won’t be too slow and I’ve booked in for a private early scan at 7+6 for viability.

Congratulations! I found out at 3+2 and self referred straight away. They called me back the next day and booked me in my booking appointment for 6.5 weeks time. I was on my own until then which was really odd. I had private scans at 6,8,9.5,11 weeks and a NIPT at 11 weeks and then my NHS scan at 12 weeks. You start to see someone every month or so after this point. Or if you have any complications/concerns it might be multiple times a week like it has been for me.

Enjoy your holiday, update your travel insurance if you can and make sure you’re taking your supplements. The time goes quickly after the 1st trimester and I welcome my boy in the next few weeks
