Guys,

I'm currently on daily fragmin injections during pregnancy and 6 week after.. my question is.. Does anyone else have them? And if you do then how do you cope with bruising and pain and where do you inject them?

I think upper thigh is recommended. I found that immediate pressure was the key. As soon as you’ve done the injection, quickly press down and massage for a little while. Really helps with bruising and pain.

@postmanshereThanks.. I have been doing it there but my bruising is horrendous. I applied pressure initially but then my legs were turning black from the bruising of finger prints 😂

I had them 6 weeks post pregnancy with my son and not going to lie I gave up after 4.5 weeks it was just too painful! The only thing I found was if you have someone willing, getting them to do it for you and closing your eyes. I found doing it myself made it so much worse!

My husband had these post operation. I injected them for him in the back of his upper arms (fatty part). Is that an option for you to have someone else do it for you?

My mil is a nurse and currently giving this daily to my friend. They use an ice cube first on the area (5 mins) - she says it makes all the difference.

DaveWatts · 23/04/2025 12:52

I found stomach was the least painful, injecting slowly - not enough fat on my thighs! I was told by the nurse not to press afterwards as it makes bruising worse. Did get dh to do just above my bum a couple of times but that hurt more.

flutterbye99 · 23/04/2025 12:53

Yeah, my mum can do them when she’s available but it’s the pain afterwards as well. I have huge lumps come up under the skin and then I can’t touch my legs or even brush past anything without wanting to cry in pain. I will try the ice and see what happens. I had them for 6 weeks after giving birth in 2022 but these seem to be so different!

23 weeks and been taking them for the past 20 weeks 😪 rotate from side to side. Bruising is inevitable. Try to avoid anywhere your knicker line is so it doesn’t rub. I find the bum and thighs more painful especially when you try and sleep on that side.
weirdly some days don’t hurt and other sting like mad, no idea why.
doing it slowly helps
I find the fat above my hip/tummy area works and is less painful.
im black and blue from the injections but they’ve meant I can have a baby and hopefully a healthy pregnancy

good luck!

Rotate sites.
When sticking the needle in, imagine it going into a stick of butter.
Press plunger down very slowly (helps it to sting less).
Don't rub it - this makes bruising worse.
Accept that some days hurt more than others, you will bruise, but remember it's not forever.

I'm 13 weeks, been on them since 6 weeks. Started on 7500 units but after the 2 week blood test it was discovered to be too high and they had thinned my blood too much. Since then I've been on 5000 units and have found I don't bruise as much, some days they do sting and the odd one will hurt for a long time after. I've been injecting into my belly. For me the lower dose has definitely been a relief. I also inject last thing at night when I'm getting into bed so once I've injected I'm not moving around etc.

Fizxy · 25/04/2025 12:30

I’ve had these throughout 2 pregnancies (and the 6 weeks after 😩) and to be honest you do get used to it and it soon becomes second nature doing them everyday. I found pinching a good inch on your stomach is the best place (thighs always freaked me out a bit not sure why). Put the needle in really slowly and do the plunger slow too. Don’t touch or rub after as this does make it bruise. Alternate sides everyday and try and find a spot that’s not already near some bruising. I also used to inject at night to avoid irritating where I’d just injected but towards the end of my pregnancies I had to switch to injecting in the morning as I was told you’re more likely to go into labour at night and ideally the fragmin needs to have worn off when you give birth (especially if you want epidural etc)

Janefx40 · 25/04/2025 12:41

Hiya. I feel for you. Fragmin is horrid. I had it too. I always found my belly less painful than my thighs but also one of my thighs was worse than the other. So it is trial and error. Psychologically I found it better to do it in the morning so I was dreading it all day.

flutterbye99 · 25/04/2025 12:57

Thanks Guys! It’s obviously just one of them things I’m just going to have to suffer and work with! Can’t wait until the baby is a teenager so I can tell it exactly what I went through 😂🤣😂 x
