Could I be pregnant after my miscarriage?

Hi everyone,
looking for some advice/support
I had a miscarriage about a month ago…I believe I was about 4/5 weeks. I bled for about 11 days. I was then due to ovulate on 5th April (had unprotected sex on this date). Since then I’ve had some spotting and very very bad cramps (which isn’t the usual for me). I have no definite answer to say I definitely ovulated that exact date, just my period tracker to go by. I am now one day late on my period…took a test and it was completely negative. Could it be this is just my body dealing with the miscarriage and everything? Or is there a possibility I could be pregnant again?
TIA xxx

Hey hope you’re well. Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. The first period, even the first few after a miscarriage can be different in regards to pain and bleeding. Iv found that they’re usually more painful. Saying that, You’re also very fertile after a miscarriage too

Thankyou so much for your honesty. Obviously my heart wants to believe I’m pregnant but I need to prepare myself I’m most likely not xx

It could be either. I had a miscarriage last year, a few weeks later I had a positive test. I got my hopes up but a trip to EPU confirmed it was leftover from the miscarriage. I had my first proper period a week later, and within days of it finishing, I fell pregnant (I must have ovulated early where my cycle hadn't gotten back to normal). Now have a 10 week old son :) you'll be most fertile now so just keep trying if you're not x

I’m so sorry for ur loss. Congratulations on ur rainbow baby!!! It’s so lovely to hear a positive experience, thankyou for sharing. My hopes are still up that maybe this could happen but also being very realistic that these symptoms could be period and/or the aftermath of my miscarriage xx

Sorry for the loss of your recent miscarriage.

Did you have any negative pregnancy tests in between your miscarriage and your ovulation date?

If there were at least 2 negative pregnancy tests and now a positive then this is a new pregnancy. If not, then this could just be retained material from the miscarriage as the body keeps making the pregnancy hormones after a miscarriage until the uterus is completely empty.

This difficult situation is why you are usually advised not to have unprotected sex after a miscarriage until you have had a normal period and have seen at least 2 negative pregnancy tests a few days apart. The only way now to be sure whether you are pregnant or still experiencing miscarriage after-effects, if you didn't have negative reliable pregnancy tests, will be a transvaginal ultrasound. It's important to establish which it is because if you have retained material from the miscarriage you could develop an infection and get ill. Seek medical assessment asap.

Hi, Yes I had many negative pregnancy tests following my miscarriage and had bloods done to confirm my HCG was back to normal. So I am very confident that there is no retained material. I am just trying to understand if these symptoms are due to the miscarriage and my period coming or if it could be a new pregnancy. I took a test yesterday afternoon which was negative but still no sign of my period. Thankyou for your advice x
