First time pregnant - Clearblue says 2-3 weeks, what do I do next?

Hi everyone,

I just took a Clearblue Digital test this morning and it says 2-3 weeks pregnant! This is my first time and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed (but excited too!). I honestly have no idea what I’m supposed to do next.

Do I need to call my GP straight away? Or do I wait a bit longer? Will they confirm the pregnancy or refer me somewhere?

Any advice on what happens now or what I should be doing would be really appreciated. I feel a bit clueless and just want to make sure I’m doing everything right from the start!

Thank you!

Ahh congratulations! Yes phone the GP when they’re open again and see what the procedure is in your local area, they call it a booking appointment by mine and they’ll do blood tests, a urine sample and booked my 12-13 week scan.
Wouldn’t hurt to start taking some folic acid vitamins either.

I would just google it as the info may be online. In my area you self-refer to the midwives by filling in a form which you can download yourself. With my first I phoned the GP and they were actually a bit rude about it and implied I should have known to contact the midwives directly and not wasted their time.

Thank you for your reply, I will definitely call them on Tuesday to confirm everything x

Congratulations

in most areas the GP isn't involved. They don't confirm a pregnancy as the tests you buy are exactly the same. You only speak to GP if you are currently taking any medication that would need to be reviewed. I personally wouldn't bother waiting in the queue to speak to receptionist. It will be a waste of your life if you don't have any other medical needs.

Look at what hospitals are near you and decide which one you want to use if there are a couple (consider parking at the hospital as some near me are horrendous!!)

Then you just complete the form on the hospital website and wait for a midwife to call you for your first appointment between 8-10 weeks. You are unlikely to hear from midwives any sooner.

When I found out I was pregnant I called my gp and they said they do not offer any pregnancy services (your gp might be different).

This is the NHS midwife self referral form: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/refer-yourself-for-nhs-pregnancy-care/

Take folic acid if you’re not already!

I think in most places there’s a form on your local hospital/nhs trust website to fill in to refer directly to the midwife services - you don’t need GP.
