17 weeks and movements have stopped

I have had sporadic movements for over a week, flutters and sometimes what felt like tiny kicks. Yesterday hardly anything and today nothing.

I feel super anxious and the fact that we're on holiday at the moment and only due to return tomorrow doesn't help :(

Anyone else going through this? xxx

Can you get to a local hospital to get checked out today? Unfortunately I don't think anything will reassure you until you can be seen and assessed💐

Almondsandavocados · 20/04/2025 10:51

Didn’t want to read and run. If you can get to see a pregnancy unit where you are I’d do that- or ring your midwife. Always better to get checked out, even if just for peace of mind.

Is this your first baby? When I went to hospital with one of mine albeit later on in the pregnancy, they gave me a cup of iced water to drink, that got the baby moving. I'm not sure at 17 weeks how much movement on a regular basis you are likely to feel, but maybe try the iced water?

Eenameenadeeka · 20/04/2025 11:01

I have had it happen and it was just that they had changed position, but it is always best to get checked

Upinthetreetops · 20/04/2025 11:04

Always better to get it checked out for your own reassurance, but you'll be fine to wait till tomorrow when you get home. It might be more stressful trying to access care in a different country. It's different at a later gestation you'd need to check straight away but now it's probably normal. This happened me on and off between 18-22 weeks I'd have a day here and there where I couldn't feel anything. Lie down in bed with both hands on your tummy and do some deep breathing exercises. Focus on nothing else but your baby and see what you can feel💜

Cruiser123 · 20/04/2025 11:21

We're not in a different country, we're in Wales for Easter. I think I have to wait until tomorrow to have it checked out. :( what a worry

My son was always like this throughout the whole pregnancy. Some days he’d kick all day and other days I’d not feel a thing, often for a few days in a row. It did become his routine, but it always made me really nervous.
Always best to get checked, but I’m not sure they’ll do much at 17 weeks as movements can still be quite sporadic at that point, and baby changing position is likely to be the reason, but again, always best to get worries seen to.

Fraggeek · 20/04/2025 11:32

Please remember that at 17 weeks baby is still very small and whilst you may have had regular movements until now, they don't usually worry about baby being felt as much this early on. Purely because of how small baby is there are many factors that could "hide' babys movements.
Some maternity units won't even see women prior to 20 weeks without a referral for community midwife/Dr.
If you are really concerned though, I would absolutely be travelling home if it means you'll be seen and checked out. Who do your maternity notes say to contact at this stage?

Remember tomorrow is also a bank hol 🤍

Hope all is ok x

17 weeks is early, I didn't even feel my baby until just gone 20 weeks, but as you've been feeling them consistently and you've noticed a change in pattern, personally I'd get checked, even in Wales. You'll be able to go to a local maternity unit in Wales. I'm not saying there is anything wrong, they're still so small and may have just moved position etc, but personally I couldn't relax otherwise.

Good luck x

Alongside what others have said about 17wks being v early and baby being able to move in a way that means you don’t feel them, I find that if I’m travelling/out of my usual routine I feel things much less often because there’s just other things going on so I don’t notice as much. At 17wks it’s really easy not to notice movement if you’re walking or talking to someone else or just generally busy, so maybe it’s that as well?

The thing about 17wks is there’s no real intervention a hosp could make that would change the outcome (unlike after 24 wks where if you’re ever remotely concerned about movements you should call hosp asap) I’d suggest giving it a couple of days and if you still haven’t felt anything get in touch with your hosp for advice?

But be aware as others have said they may just say to hang in there until your 20wk scan in the absence of concerning symptoms (bleeding, cramping).

Just to update the thread, in case someone will be in a similar position in the future and stumbles upon this thread:

I have started to feel sporadic flutters and rolls again. There is no pattern and they aren't regular, but baby seems well :) So I won't call the midwife or hospital.

Thanks to everyone who commented :)
