I am coming up to 8 weeks pregnant and absolutely miserable. Since 6 weeks i’ve been hit with constant nausea and now i’m actually puking. There is a horrible taste in my mouth all the time and it brings on me feeling sick.
please tell me this is temporary, i just want to be able to live life somewhat normal again and not be ruled by my constant nausea.
has anyone taken any medication that worked?

My advice is to get medication asap. I held off for ages and I'm now 22 weeks and still get nausea without medication. Cyclizine is first line but it did nothing, got prescribed xonvea which is incredible but GP reluctant - had to get from hospital consultant in the end!

I was like that around the 8 week mark also. It was getting worse and worse and I felt horrendous. If it's any consolation, mine disappeared one morning and that was that. It was gone for the rest of the pregnancy. Your body is changing so take note of what foods you are craving and what makes you sick. I couldn't look at some foods I had always eaten. Craved ice cream and oranges. Hopefully it will pass for you too

I had awful nausea that lasted 2 trimesters, was worried as I lost a lot of weight - was the same weight full term as what I’d started the pregnancy at. Baby was growing fine though, I just had to try & eat as nutritiously as I could. I wouldn’t have dreamed of taking medication, it was unpleasant but I was more worried about my baby being healthy & knew it would end eventually. Try & get lots of rest & see if you can find something that takes the taste away - maybe boiled sweets or gum?

@Marmite1992 my midwife app is not till 1st may, but I am going to see the doctor before and see it I can get something prescribed. Thanks.

@LimeQuoter oh wow that’s amazing, I hope that’s the case for me too. I have heard that some people just have their sickness disappear!

Well done mamma to be. So sorry to say, I was sick every single day weeks 4-16. I would get out of bed in the morning, puke and feel slightly better. I’d puke at work and the ONLY thing that made me feel momentarily better was immediately puking or eating some carby food.
Hope you don’t get that, but if you do, another thing to watch out for is your posture when puking, as I ended up in physio for injuring my back from being hunched over the loo so much.

i pray you don’t feel that way. Everyone is different. But my daughter is now 15 months and I would be sick everyday if I could have her, being a mom is the best, it really is that amazing. It’s worth it to me.

eat. I found eating a lot helped me. Gained 30lbs but lost it after x

@Nowdontmakeamess I totally understand not wanting to take medication but there’s nothing to say it has any adverse effects and if helps me with the constant nausea then I’m considering taking it at least for the time being. Sweets do help for a while and then that horrible taste in my mouth comes straight back!

8-weeks is rough! Hang in there, it will get better..... I clearly remember it being the peak sickness time in both of my pregnancies with throwing up multiple times a day and awful taste constantly.

Definitely try meds and know it will get better/you somehow manage it. Also tell yourself that it's a really good sign for your pregnancy!

TheFamousMrEd · 19/04/2025 22:12

I would definitely try meds.

I’ve been on xonvea since about 6-7 weeks and am still taking it now (32 weeks) as the nausea is still ongoing.

I couldn’t have coped without the medication, I’d have gone insane!

Melusina123 · 20/04/2025 14:29

Don’t suffer - get anti-nausea medications, and keep trying until you find one that allows you to function at a level you’re happy with. Like others I was prescribed Xonvea and it was great (nb it’s under patent so about 5x the price of others which is why some GPs resist prescribing it and might want you to try something else first).

Get the meds !
