Hello (at 4am)

I’m currently 25 weeks with my first and insomnia is kicking my ass! Tonight has been sleep from 10-2am. Currently on the sofa with Finding Nemo on in the background 🐠 I know people say “oh just you wait…” and “at least you’ll be prepared” but honestly that makes it worse. I’ve never been the best sleeper though since cutting down on caffeine and alcohol the last few years I’ve been much better…until now!

any hints/tips would be so appreciated. I’ve heard magnesium bath salts and body butter are good? Thanks so much and hoping no one sees this until a reasonable hour 🤣

I had this and couldn’t find anything to help me sleep but did reframe it in my head - I told myself as long as my body was resting that was better than nothing so would stay in bed, try and keep my eyes closed and think about nice things / practice up and down breathing. Sometimes this approach had the added side effect of dozing off!

@MrsBP15 I'm nearly 31 weeks and insomnia has been my main issue for ages now.

On the better days, I pop an audiobook on my snoozeband headphones, and I can usually drift off.

On bad days, I take myself into a different room, switch off phone, and read with low light for a bit. (Sometimes I do some cross stitch but have a tendency to screw this up and end up unpicking it the next day...) Something to make my eyes tired and not excite my brain is the solution, I think.

Worst thing to do is spend time near a screen - the blue light makes your brain think it's dawn. 🫠

I used to put on the sound of rain or other ASMR kinds of sounds.

Oh and I think it can be connected to low iron

CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) for insomnia might be helpful. There are apps like sleepio and lots of books which are quite affordable. You can also pay for a therapist online.

Thank you I agree and I’m trying to do this for the first hour I’m awake just in case I fall back to sleep. It has actually worked a few times!

thank you! I’ve bought myself a little reading light so should be able to do some reading without disturbing my husband!

Thank you! I’ve been doing therapy since September when I started ivf so I definitely plan on speaking about it at my next session.
