Transverse head to right - 35 weeks

Hi all, never had this before but today I’m 35 weeks 3 days, 36 weeks Monday and I’ve had a scan today and they have said baby is laying transverse, head to maternal right.
has anyone else had this and baby has turned? I’ve read that you’ll have to be admitted at 37 weeks most of the time and have a c section but I’ve spent 9 months convincing myself to have a vaginal birth ( traumatic first birth ) now I have all these thoughts in my head.
has anyone also had a small baby? But first one was quite large? My husband is 6’5 and I am not small, but this time around my baby is also on 15th percentile and my daughter was 99.8% so I’m just worried there’s something wrong but they said he’s tracking normal but the ultrasound tech did ask when I’m having a midwife appointment I’m assuming they’ll read my notes and advise next steps? I will refuse that procedure to turn baby aswell as I don’t want to do that just looking for some advice thank you x

DS was an unstable transverse lie. I was admitted at 37 weeks and had a c section at 38 weeks. He was wedged pretty firmly and didn't turn (I wasn't offered a manual turn, and wouldn't have had it, even if offered).

He was 7lb 1oz. DD was 9lb 7oz 13 months before.

He was fine when he was born (if a wee bit surprised, as he'd been asleep, poor sausage!).

ETA: DH and I are 6'1" and 5'11" respectively.

What is unstable transverse lie is that similar to transverse with head to right? Thank you for telling me your experience, ah I’ll struggle so much I’m so obsessed with my little girl I really don’t want to leave her for a week or so at hospital 😭

His head was to the right (my right, not as you look at me). Not sure what made him unstable, but that's how he was described. Maybe it's that he wouldn't have stayed wedged if my waters went?

It was hard leaving DD, but she was so young she doesn't remember.

DS turned from head down at 36 weeks, so your baby may yet turn the other way. (He turned in Asda; I recall the discomfort well!)

I’m in the exact same boat, also 36 weeks on Monday. I have a scan on Friday but baby has been transverse throughout and I can feel she’s still in the same position. I’ve declined the ECV. I have a consultant appointment booked in for Wednesday where I assume they will give me a section date and will apparently be admitted the following Monday.
has your baby measured on the small side throughout your pregnancy?
what all did they check at your scan today as my midwife said the scan will inform their timeline of when I will have my c section x

I was having a scan for growth and then it was found he was transverse and wasn’t given a lot of detail it was a bit like the 20 week check for measurements like thigh bone spine etc then checked cord fluid and placenta, everything was normal. He was tracking smallish like just under 50 percentile but now its 15 and I have had no consistent midwife this time and a lot of bank staff for my checks so feel a bit uneasy, my 36 week mw appointment is Saturday so I guess I’ll find out more then it’s so stressful thinking of you

Thank you! All the medical references confuse me I’m really glad it worked out in the end I guess if I’m admitted it’s best for the baby and I need to remember all of that

I had this with my recent baby - went in for an abnormal growth scan at 37 weeks (which was fine in terms of measurements) but as baby was transverse I was admitted and spent the next two weeks sat around until my c section at 39 weeks. Not ideal (especially as had two other kids at home and it was just after Christmas) but that was the recommendation so made sense to stay in hospital. Baby kept moving but didn’t stay fixed head down for 48 hours so wasn’t allowed home.

I was always having a c section so no issues from that perspective. Rather that than a vaginal birth any day!!!

How did you cope leaving your kids for two weeks, this is my biggest worry as I am very very attached to my two year old ( not saying no one else is ) but I’m a very emotional person 😂 so I don’t know how I will cope doing that that’s what’s scaring me the most as soon as she opens her eyes she says mama from her room

The kids were fine - my husband brought them in to see me every day. I felt worse for my older one tbh as he’d just spent the week at his dad’s and then arrives home the same day I was admitted! My toddler adapted well - he was waving me off at the end of their visits, bless him. I think he thought it was my new home! They adapt well. And it might have helped prepare him a bit for when the baby came as he was used to my husband doing everything with him after two weeks of it.

It’s not ideal if you’re admitted (and two weeks is a long time to be sat around waiting) but on the plus side you will get some rest before the baby comes. I read quite a few books and snoozed a lot. It was quite nice not cooking etc for a couple of weeks! I did meet some interesting people on the wards (good and bad!).

Good luck!

TheBoomingVoiceofExperience · 18/04/2025 00:58

My cheeky second baby was transverse unstable lie as well. Had a section at 36 weeks for other reasons but he did turn two days before at 35.5.

due to some other complications I was in for six weeks in total OP with limited time with my older child (3) as over Covid. Was horrible but we had grandparents come to stay to help keep her mind off it, she was fine at the time but does have a lingering suspicion about doctors and hospitals. Also you have to remember you are about to have another LO who needs all their own looking after as well. They need you right now.

Good luck with it all OP. Xx

My two boys were transfer lie . I had polyhydramnious, both ELCS…have absolutely no regrets,it was the safest birth for them.

At how many weeks pregnant were your sections? X

ScarlettSloth · 18/04/2025 17:54

Had my scan today (35+4) and baby was transverse unstable lie so will have my follow up with the consultant on Wednesday and then expect to be hospitalised the following week. They said I had amniotic fluid levels at the upper range of normal (I was measuring 7.9 and the cut off for abnormal is 8) which is probably why baby is moving around so much.

BunnyRuddington · 18/04/2025 18:06

Yes both times then the little nuggets did a flip and engaged. Will take a transverse baby an engaged baby grinding its head on your Pubis any day! Grin

I cannot remember the fluid levels but I know first son was off the scale. He was literally turning 360. I was hospitalised a few days before section because the obs was worried about cord prolapse . This was nearly 30 years ago ! Time flies so fast, he is in Australia now 😢

Greentableleg · 18/04/2025 21:41

My second baby was a transverse lie and I had to stay in hospital for the last month of my pregnancy. I was scheduled for a section and the night before my waters broke and she turned head down as I was being rushed down the corridor for an emcs so ended up having a vaginal birth.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 18/04/2025 21:52

My second was discovered to be transverse unstable lie at my 40 week appointment. I'm pretty certain he had been flipping between cephalic, oblique and transverse for weeks but had always happened to be cephalic at previous midwife appointments, so it wasn't picked up and I wasn't admitted early.

I was admitted to antenatal straight from my midwife appointment. They scanned me and he'd gone head down, but by the time I got back to the ward he'd gone oblique again 🙄

I was offered two options - to stay in overnight and have an ECV the next morning and they would break my waters straight away if successful and then do whatever needed to induce labour. Or to be admitted for as long as it took to get a C section slot. I just wanted it over and done so I agreed to the first option, but over night he turned cephalic again and I went into labour naturally, he was born by teatime with no complications!

BunnyRuddington · 18/04/2025 22:21

*Little buggers. I have no idea why it changed to nuggets.

HangryTaupeDuck · 02/05/2025 09:09

Our dates seem to be exactly the same!

Our baby girl was transverse with mild polyhydramnios when they scanned me at 36 weeks, so booked me in for another scan at 37 weeks where she was breech.

They will now be admitting me on Monday at 38 weeks, unless something changes I imagine, and have booked me for a c-section at 39 weeks.

I’m not so keen on an ECV, since it might not work/could end up in emergency c-section and also not sure about induction in the event that she does go head down before the section 😕 how are you getting on?

I am the same I have said i wont accept ECV, i had my 38 week check today and hes still transverse, got a scan and consultant meeting next thursday i feel like my hospital are really leaving mine late to be honest, LOL which is stressing me out ive read lots of people get admitted 37/38 weeks and they dont seem that bothered at my hospital so i guess i'll need to wait until im nearly 39 weeks to get my c. section date - really really hoped hed turn

That does seem late for a transverse lie, @rosiebutterfly. I was admitted at 37 weeks and had a 38 week ELCS. I wasn't even offered an ECV, but would've refused anyway.

strange isn't it, they just said today at my 38 week check if i go into natural labour to basically try hang myself upside down and call for an ambulance.... brilliant.

WTAF?!

I was already admitted, so was told that if my waters went to lift my bum high in the air and buzz for help, so they could whisk me to theatre...the whole point of taking you in early! Your hospital seems a bit free and easy on the risk side.

BunnyRuddington · 03/05/2025 18:57

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, if you have refused ECV are you trying any Optimal Baby Positioning exercises?

And I know that you may miss your DC1 but honestly, she will be absolutely fine and quickly adjust to the new set up Flowers

Getting your baby into the best birth position

The ideal position for your baby to be in for labour and birth is head down, their back towards the front of your stomach.
