Good morning mums. I am 17w pregnant with my second and my second gd diagnosis. Last time I wasn't diagnosed until the end of my pregnancy and it was diet managed. This time my Non-Fasting readings are consistently on target, In fact they don't waver much at all. However, more and more of my fasting readings are too high. I have an appointment In a couple of days to discuss treatment (medication I assume). I'm just reaching out to see if anyone has any experience Or advice. I'm especially wondering if there are any questions I should ask at the appointment. I've had a few conversations with different medical staff over both pregnancies. I always feel that during the meeting they have my best interest at heart and I just need to go with the flow. But then not long after I feel like I've just been steamrolled into doing something because it's procedure and I haven't actually made the best decision for me or the baby. I'd be incredibly grateful if anyone can give me some pointers to get me prepared.

(For background; I have a good diet. I'm very active, work out everyday. I'm not overweight. Clearly none of this actually matters, but there seems to be a pretty strong belief out there that GD is entirely down to the mother's lifestyle. That's not what I'm here to debate, I really want advice from people who have had this experience.)

I had gestational diabetes in both my pregnancies, also good weight/diet etc.

have you looked at the Gestational Diabetes UK Facebook page and website? There are lots of meal ideas and some suggestions that you can do to try and improve your fasting readings like having protein snacks before bed and apple cider vinegar but I don’t recommend that one! There’s also lots of women with experience and advice.

I needed medication with both, metformin tablets with my first and then metformin and slow release insulin with my second. Both were fine, I didn’t have side effects, the insulin was painless but they did what they were supposed to do. I used the advice from GDUK with regards to diet etc as my hospital advice was pretty rubbish but I think there’s not much you can really do with fasting readings. My children are 6 and 8 now so hospital advice has hopefully improved!

Thank you @Loops1987.
I'm glad to hear the medication was okay. I forgot about GD UK actually, I'll have to have a look on there. I think I got a lot of recipes off there last time.
Interesting about the protein snack because the dietitian said a carbohydrate snack before bed would work ( It didn't). I'll have to try it!
And I know what you mean about the apple cider vinegar 🤢. I tried it a couple of times, once watered down but it tastes so strong that I thought I might as well just do a shot of it next time and get it over and done with. Either way it wasn't very effective so I'll leave that one.

Im the same stage as you and also 2nd baby. Recently been prescribed metformin and it has massively improved my fasting readings. I’m so fed up of cheese and eggs already though!
