Fit to fly at 24 weeks?

Hi everyone

Have never flown whilst pregnant and unsure whether I need a fit to fly certificate? My midwife isn’t getting back to me and I don’t see her until a few days before I fly, will that be too late for her to get one signed for me or can they do it there and then? GP receptionist said they don’t do them anymore and I need to speak to midwife.

I am consultant led in pregnancy due to having IUGR with my daughter but again I don’t see him until 2 weeks after I get back.

I’ve sorted pregnancy travel insurance.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure it's 28 weeks for most airlines that a fit to fly letter is needed. I flew without one at 24 weeks, though I did get asked about my gestation on the way home (didn't think I looked especially big then, probably just all the food I ate on my holiday 😂). They accepted my answer though and didn't ask to see any further evidence.

@elm26 depends on your airline. Best check with them, they all state clearly on their websites what they require. At the very least you should be able to show in which week you are, just in case they ask.

I few at 23 weeks and wasn’t asked for anything, but I probably didn’t look that pregnant at that point in my loose jumper.

I flew at 25 weeks and didn't need anything. I didn't really look pregnant unless I wore specific clothing.

Most airlines it's your 28th week (which is 27+1, that catches people out but anything over 27+0 is your 28th week of pregnancy).

I was consultant led and my midwife wouldn't sign it, said it must be the consultant if you're not midwife led.

You can buy a private certificate for around £40, you send copies of your notes and a private doctor fills out the form. If they feel you're not fit to fly you're usually refunded. Although at 24 weeks you're unlikely to find an airline that requires one.
