Is it worth getting a photo at the 36 week scan?

Our 36 week scan is next week. Is it worth paying for the photo? From what I remember there isn’t a lot to see!

Do you have to pay for photos these days? 😥Oh well, I suppose it makes sense. I would. I have an excellent picture of Ds’s face at this stage. But I think it’s always a matter of luck🤞

I would! It depends on you and how sentimental you are. Sucks that we have to pay but I definitely would.

Literally the only clear feature or limb I could see of DS at the 36 week scan were his balls, so didn't bother 😂

There’s a 36 week scan? I thought it was just 12 and 20.

that’s all I had so no, no 36 week scan photo 😂

I had a 36,37,38,39 week scans because of fluid issues.

I didn’t get a picture because that wasn’t on my mind , and I wasn’t offered either and to be honest I was just waiting to the end of it and meet my LO in person.

My 36 week scan, the best we could get was a foot!

Couldn't even see her face or head at all as she was so low down and facing the back never mind getting a photo

I personally don’t think it’s ok. I think that living in the womb is the time when a baby is private and not exposed to the world. They are living their own life.
Absolutely nothing wrong with anomaly, growth scans because that is in the babies interest, checking their health.

I had a late scan with ds1 because I had polyhydramnios, it was great you could really see his face and everything.

skipdiddyskip · 11/04/2025 10:17

Yes, at my trust we have to pay for each scan photo (it’s not much but if they can’t get a clear photo there are no refunds, we ended up wasting money with dd1!) and we have 3 scans, 12, 20 and 36 weeks.

Not sure if this is helpful for you to decide but I've attached the photo i got from my last scan (34w +2). It was the clearest they could get but mine was free as they printed one by mistake so just gave me it.

I'm personally a bit sentimental and like having the photos but now they've added a charge it does make me more apprehensive on which ones to actually get, which can be annoying when you don't get to choose the photos and can end up with poor quality or ones not really worth having.

I got a 35 week one because I had a scan after having Covid and reduced movements twice (was nice to my area to do so as I understand not all trusts do) and baby was breech at the time. So it’s just her bum bum. But it’s still very precious!

My trust did a 36 week scan as standard 10 years ago. It was being promoted as hugely useful to spot any issues with blood flow from the placenta and considered to be vital un reducing the risk of stillbirth by large margins.

It seems to be catching on and becoming standard more widely.

I dont remember seeing a lot and didn't bother taking photos but then I wasn't interested in photos from any scans.

My trust also do it. It's more known as the "positioning" scan to pick up any undetected breech babies (like my second....).

I didn't bother with any photos beyond the 12 and 20 week scans. Nothing was clear, and it was all close up snippets of body parts. It was lovely to see them. Despite my son having his head where everyone had told me his butt was.
