Placenta problems

I'm over 40 and considering IVF for a 2nd child. I have 2 frozen embryos, but I have concerns over previous procedures for RPOC following two TFMR.

I'm concerned that these along with my age, increase my risk of placenta previa and/or accreta and the fear is preventing me moving forward. I'm stuck in a position of putting my safety and my existing child first based on a fear and living with the decision to only ever have one child, never knowing what may have been. .

I'm hoping to hear from women who have had multiple procedures or c sections. Did you have any issues, how was it managed? Or was it a completely smooth pregnancy?

I've spoken with an obstetrician who has reassured me that if this was the case I'd be well managed, but also that RPOC are common in early losses and no indication of a placenta issue. I've also recently had a hysteroscopy in which no scarring was seen however my periods continue to be much lighter than they have ever been.

I'm loosing sleep over the decision as time is ticking on, I've already started the ball rolling with the clinic but feel like I need to hit the pause button as I'm just too scared of a bad outcome 😔

Sorry to hear of your losses OP.
Do you know if you had ERPCs which generally use the newer suction technique, or D&Cs? They're often still referred to as a D&C but may not have been.

If ERPC, the likelihood of scarring to an extent that would cause placenta accreta is extremely low.
Even with a D&C the chance is low.

I personally would not let this stand in the way of pursuing a much wanted pregnancy.
Did you have a c section for your DC?

I had ERPCs, and have since had a pregnancy with no placental adherence issues. DC was then born by C section, so these things play on my mind occasionally when thinking of a future pregnancy.

Hi @remaininghopeful23 sorry to hear you have experienced similar too. It's reassuring to hear that you then had a normal pregnancy, congratulations ☺️

I've had 4 procedures in total, first two for the first TFMR were definitely suction, the I'm almost certain the third was too but the 4th was using a device called myosure, generally used for fibroid removal I think, but was deemed necessary in my case for RPOC. I was 14 weeks at the time of the 2nd TMFR, cord snapped, placenta removed by hand but a fair bit of tissue left, hence the 3rd procedure then subsequently the 4th. DC was a vaginal delivery, all be it with a cut and forceps 🥴

I've been lucky that the consultants have listened to my concerns. I guess I have had more reassurance than others in terms of the hysteroscopy. My transfer will be in the next week (just waiting on ovulation) so the nerves, doubts and fears have well and truly kicked in.

You've been through a lot @Sunniehols
I think, for me anyway, it's a form of trauma that can make you overthink everything. Admittedly I don't know the statistics, but did discuss scarring with my obstetrician and was told with the suction type procedures that risk is so low. She said that's why they changed to that method.

I've heard of Myosure, but never had it myself. From what I know, it uses suction and can also cut some tissues, so no curettage. I would guess that makes it low risk also. The hysteroscopy sounds really reassuring too.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your transfer. I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible for you💐
