Hi everyone,

Looking for some positivity please, I'm in such a dark place and I'm struggling with each passing day.

Ive had an eptopic 3 weeks ago and they had to remove my right tube. They told me they checked the other tube and 'had a look around' and all looked OK but I just cant accept that I'll be able to concieve again. I've read so much it's panicked me and now I'm thinking all the worst case situations.
I do have a 1 year old son, so have carried previously but I just feel like after this trauma, I can't see me every being able to concieve again or if I do it could be another eptopic. Thank you for reading, one very sad mother xx

So sorry you're going through this.
I had an ectopic with tube removal in August 23 and was told that after one cycle I could try again. By October, I was pregnant again, which sadly ended in a very early miscarriage. But I then conceived immediately after and had a baby in August 24, with weirdly the same due date as the day when I had the surgery previously.

The consultant told me at the time that if you had no issues with fertility previously then it should be ok. Obviously everybody's different but hopefully this gives you some hope. I'd recommend ovulation test strips to help conceive quickly.

Don’t think the worst. The odds of it happening again are very slim. My friend suffered the same including chemical pregnancy after but she now has a wonderful 5 month old x

Hello@HeartbrokenM,
sorry that you have had to go through this. I had exactly the same experience of an ectopic at 11weeks about 9 years ago, and had one of my fallopian tubes removed as well. It was miserable, and I went on to experience similar feelings to you. I was paranoid that it was due to my over exertion of Zumba, insanity, and Pilates all at once every week prior to my he ectopic. But, just to let you know, that those feelings will pass. You have a darling little one, and you may go on to have another one or two even! It can happen. The faulty tube was removed, and so the perfectly functioning one can still do its job. Give it time, and try not to worry too much. Do take care of yourself.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Ectopics are such a cruel form of loss :(

I had one in January 2023 and honestly I think the trauma of the trip to A&E and the subsequent diagnosis and treatment will stay with me forever. I opted to reject surgery and had methotrexate treatment instead, which meant I kept both tubes including the 'faulty' one - the decision for me was that I had been ttc a long time and had been having fertility treatment, as part of that I'd had a tubal test and had previously been told nothing was wrong with the tubes. Given all my struggles conceiving I felt strongly I didn't want to lose a tube.

Happily, I conceived my son naturally 3 months later and all was well with that pregnancy, although in the initial weeks there was pain on the side the ectopic had been - presumably scar tissue or something that hadn't finished healing as I was pregnant again so soon, but I was terrified the pregnancy was ectopic again.

When you're ready to try again, there's no reason why you can't have a healthy pregnancy. I was told that even after surgery, women are no less likely to conceive, and while there is a increased risk of a second ectopic is still a small risk. The odds are very much in your favour.

Please don’t worry, although having been there myself I know it’s hard not to.

I had an ectopic in September 2021, picked up at a reassurance (haha) scan which I was given due to previous mc. I lost my tube and it was a really, really shit time, I needed “good news” stories like air! I conceived again around six months later from the side I lost my tube; that pregnancy ended in another miscarriage but it was absolutely nothing to do with the ectopic. Just before the year anniversary of my ectopic I found out I was pregnant again with DS who joined us in May ‘23.

One of the stories I clung to was a colleague of mine who went through the same experience and also lost a tube. Six months later she was pregnant with her twin girls. My hairdresser also had an ectopic just before me, she’s about to have her third post-tube removal baby. Please don’t lose hope,
