Pregnancy symptoms at work and dizziness

hello everyone!

I am currently 24+6 pregnant. I work in a high intense job. I’ve had a pretty great pregnancy so far but now experiencing a lot of dizziness/nausea and headaches! My iron and blood pressure is fine, which is great but it also means there’s not a lot I can do.

I drink water and eat a balance diet. But now wondering how I manage this with work as I’m struggling as I have now had 4 occasions where I’ve come home because I’m not sure if I’m going to throw up or pass out. Meaning I’ve then had to catch up on so much work feeling even more stressed.

I have not had a risk assessment yet but am pushing for this.

i can’t seem to find much online about any similar experiences

xx

They have to do a risk assessment, it’s a legal requirement (assuming you’re in the UK). They have to provide you with reasonable adjustments- in your case seeing as you’re experiencing dizziness could be being able to sit down whenever possible and extra breaks.
Do you have a HR dept? If you do I would take this up with them.
If you feel like you actually aren’t well enough to work you could get signed off sick for a while - sickness for pregnancy related issues doesn’t count as normal sick leave entitlement, and it can’t be used as basis for disciplinary action etc

Thank you! Yeah I’m pushing for my assessment it’s a hard one as with work I drive a lot and obviously if I’m feeling dizzy I can’t then drive! I’ve seen the gp midwife and opticians and I think it’s just a pregnancy symptom. Yes I am in the UK. I emailed my employer today to formally inform her of my pregnancy although I already did this face to face xxx

Totally agree with previous poster. They’re legally obliged to make adjustments for you at work. Pretty sure that if they’re unable to do so, or cannot make your job safe for you and baby, you’re entitled to leave a full pay. I could be wrong on that though! Hopefully now you’ve formally told them you’re expecting, you can have the proper conversation about it. If it’s looking like it’s gonna be a while, it could be worth asking the GP to sign you off until it’s sorted at work. As PP said, it’s not usual sick leave and won’t be used against you in any way. Hope it passes quickly for you ❤️

Thank you everyone it’s so reassuring and supportive I feel like I’m being really dramatic but actually I’m not feeling well and for me that’s fine but I’m not thinking of me I’m thinking of my baby right now! I’m hoping to leave work middle of fine which is only around 9-10 weeks away but it’s feeling like a longer stretch! I’m also getting work anxiety now too! Which is unlike me 💕❤️
