For those who had C-section with placenta previa did you a bleed a lot , was the surgery complicated? Getting quite worried 🙁

@Coffeemadness Thank you lovely ❤️ xxx

@Coffeemadness It's been requested that I have a double theatre slot. Been advised to have my c section slightly earlier than my due date plus the associated bleeding risk.
I've been made aware from the fetal medicine unit that placenta previa carries a higher risk of bleeding, requiring a blood transfusion, HDU care and additional surgical techniques to manage bleeding. All this is on the report I was given.
It is quite worrying, I did have similar in 2016, had a transfusion and was in HDU overnight, that time was the placenta became stuck after my son was born by c section. A senior obstetrician presence at cesarean section.

I had it with my first, and delivered him at 41 plus one, eight days over, spontaneous labour, placenta had moved safely out of the way by then.

No, it was planned and very tranquil. I had had steroids for the baby’s lungs so well prepared and he did very well. I also had GD and he had IUGR but he didn’t need any special care.

@Coffeemadness
My placenta was also anterior, so they had to cut through it during the section. There was a big team, I had an arterial line fitted and there was a special machine that could clean my blood and give it back to me, but it wasn't needed and I felt fine throughout. Everyone seemed very well prepared and it was all calm and lighthearted.

My son did need a transfusion, so we missed out on initial cuddles, but no other issues. I'd also had steroids before (twice!).

There had been some debate about me having a general anaesthetic, but I'm glad I stayed awake.

I'm sure they'll take really good care of you and you'll have an expert team x

I was doing all the right things - exercise, movement, but my placenta previa developed towards the end of pregnancy. Eg when my child moved into position the placenta ended up covering part of the cervix. I had an induction because I had invisible preclampsia with my first and the consultant didn't want to take the risk. I ended up needing an episotomy and an iron transfusion as I developed a massive PPH.

Its good to know that most of you had a uncomplicated surgery.

I need to check if my hospital is good enough to handle my previa(not a very big hospital but not too small either) or need to check around if there are better hospitals nearby

@Coffeemadness how are you getting on?

I’ve been told I have this at the 20 week scan yesterday and feeling very anxious but this thread has helped. No bleeds so far but it’s obviously still very early days.

Coffeemadness · 04/05/2025 08:57

@Fluffydino21 mine is still covering the OS

But there is still good chance for you to move away as it's just 20 weeks.

Hope everything is going well! Wanted to comment as I read all the posts I could on placenta previa when I found out I had it. I had complete previa with an anterior placenta. Placenta never really moved up much from the very first scan where I was told it was low. Thankfully I had no bleeding throughout. Baby was meant to be delivered at 36 weeks but they forgot to tell me they'd booked me in for a section! I was 37 weeks exactly when she was born. I lost much less blood than expected thankfully with the placenta covering the front also. My little girl went to NICU for one night, we both stayed in hospital for a second night then home. Currently 28 weeks with my second and no previa this time round.

ThisDandyBee · 22/06/2025 22:22

I had full previa diagnosed at my 20 week scan (fully covering os), I was told it would likely move and was booked in for a scan at 32+5 but unfortunately I did have a big bleed resulting in the early delivery of my little boy via emergency c section at 32+1.
I say unfortunately because obviously I would rather things have gone differently but after a 1 month NICU stay he’s happy and healthy and I have an even deeper love and appreciation that I’m not sure I’d have had without our experience.
I’m grateful for my journey but praying for a different journey for you ❤️ please try to enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can as I really wish I had but instead I was hyper fixated on every eventuality when in reality every journey is different.
Enjoy all the special moments ❤️
