Sick Leave 30 weeks PGP

I’m 30 weeks pregnant and was off sick from work last week with a sudden onset of pelvic girdle pain which completely floored me. It improved and I went back to work for one day. Unfortunately I’m in a lot of pain again in my groin and also having soo much pressure down in my cervix that it feels like baby wants to come out. I have a lot going on with my fist child who is 2 and awaiting assessment for autism and also having some health problems which I’ve been exhausted with. This is manageable but means I’m struggling to get any kind of rest on my days off from work (still needing to carry her a lot and run after her as she has no sense of danger or ability to follow instructions). I work in a very busy and physically demanding job (an acute rehabilitation unit) and my job entails daily complex moving and handling. I hate being off sick from work as I never really have been and I know they’re short staffed, but I’m not sure this is going to go away, and at the moment I’d be as much use as a chocolate fire guard). Driving is also very uncomfortable and although not a long drive, I drive about 40 minutes to and from work on top of my long days). It subsided with a bit of rest last week while my little one was in child care (she goes on a Monday and Tuesday). I’m so fed up mentally and physically (also under some mental health support too due to being overwhelmed by everything, which is again new to me). Does anybody have any tips on managing pelvic girdle pain? I’ve reached out to my midwife who said she will ring me Tuesday regarding a physio referral. I really don’t want to let my workplace down and if I can keep going for the next 4 weeks, I can take annual leave almost up until my due date which is currently my agreed plan.

Go off sick.
as I’ve found out recently, having felt the same. You’re entirely replaceable at work, you’re not at home and work isn’t worth the added stress/pressure/pain.

I hope things stay as manageable as possible for you

I had PGP - get a belly band. Really helps with the pain. I was referred for physio but I never got it as the waiting list was so long, I'd have given birth before an appointment .

I went on sick for a couple of weeks before my holidays started (I’d saved a couple of weeks holiday to use before my maternity starts)
I work in a physically demanding job when I’m on my feet all day and the pain was too much. I just couldn’t do my job and I’d end up in tears every day.
if you can be on sick I would absolutely do it. You need to look after yourself as much as you can 💕

I had PGP and was on the sick for a few weeks before deciding to start my maternity leave early in January when I was due in March. So glad I did this cause it gave me time to rest and get the house ready super slowly. Granted I don’t have any other children, I found this super helpful. Sending you a hug OP, it really is debilitating and nothing REALLY helped me. It has disappeared since I gave birth though 💛

I had PGP and went off sick at 30 weeks and my maternity leave kicked in at 36 weeks - baby was born at 37 weeks. I'm an early years teacher and physically couldn't keep doing my job I was in pain all day and no sleep at night. Tried belly band and some exercises from physio but nothing really helped. I went to the doctor to ask for pain relief on advice of physio and the doctor told me to finish working and not to feel one bit bad about it - she signed me for 4 weeks and told me to ring the surgery for another 4 when that ran out to bring me up to my maternity leave starting. It's horrible, rest up and take it easy if you can!
