NHS combined screening test/ NIPT??

Anyone that has had the blood test at your 12 week scan how long did it take to get your results back?

im 34 and 9 weeks pregnant finally after a long ivf journey. My first child I had 7 years ago with no issues. But it seems so many women get the NIPT test now. I’m unsure what to do as we don’t really have a spare £400.

we had planned on telling our dc1 the news after the 12 week scan but now I’m thinking I will have to wait until I get those results or do a NIPT. It’s been so hard to hide from dc as I have been very sick and not much fun at all.

I'm not sure I’m high risk really. Our embryos were made when I was 32 and from what I have read it’s relatively low risk but you never know. Interested to hear others opinions.

I had the NIPT each time. I think it’s a disgrace that it’s not offered on the NHS, and women are unnecessarily worried With things like “1 in 20”, 1 in 40 odds. It’s really expensive, but it was worth it for me. I was older than you, though

I had the combined screening test a few weeks back and the results took about 3 and a half weeks for me, but I'm told most people get them much sooner. Most are a couple of weeks max (and only 3 days if it comes up as higher risk).

I didn't go down the NIPT route as it didn't feel worth the cost. The combined screening came back as low risk so I was happy to take that risk.

I got a phone call 6 days after my dating scan to say I had a 1 in 50 chance for DS, and slightly better, but still higher risk for Edward’s and Patau’s. I think if the combined test results are low risk, you should get a letter in around 2 weeks, but it probably varies between trusts.

I got called in the same day for NIPT, got those results a week later and all came back low risk. I’m older than you so that was definitely a factor, plus I have low Papp-A. It was a bit stressful, even when 1 in 50 are actually pretty good odds when you think about it. I hope one day that NIPT becomes the standard test for the NHS.

I was given it on the NHS twice. It's becoming more common to do so depending on your result from the combined screening.

Both times took less than a week for the result.

Mine was back in 4 days, that included sat & sun

I paid for NIPT was I was 39 and wasn't prepared to wait for the NHS scan and bloods which were booked for 13 weeks. If there was anything "wrong" I wanted to know as early as possible so I could make informed decisions in good time. That was important to me. I think the results were back in about 5 days or so. I found it so weird finding the gender out at 11 weeks pregnant!

Good point - I mean to say it should be offered to everyone instead of the combined, rather than after high risk results. You can also do it earlier - I had my results back at 9w6d this time

I had my scan Thursday and the results were on the Badger Notes app by Monday night despite being in the lowest risk band.

The pathway set out by the government is that you get offered NIPT should your combined tests come back high risk. I have been burnt before by announcing a pregnancy before getting my combined results back and so consecutive times, I held off. I think give it another week and you should have your results.

I don’t think they have the infrastructure to do that yet. I think only one lab does them in the UK. I remember when doing one privately my bloods were sent abroad. When I had it done on the NHS, the forms were from a different hospital to where I had my baby. The combined test is a lot quicker to offer / do.
