Natural births followed by Induction

Hi

i have had two spontaneous births previously however I am currently pregnant with my third and overdue and so the discussion on inducing has begun!

have already had x2 sweeps and booked in for an induction when at 40+12

has anyone got any experience of having your first ‘induction’ following previous spontaneous labours?

i’m very scared about the risks associated with induction, higher rates of instruments and emcs etc. But wondered if this was lessened if had unassisted deliveries in the past.

I’m hoping things will kick off naturally soon anyway but also starting to lose faith!

DS was induced because DD was large and I was so unwell after delivering her. So they induced DS at 39 weeks to ensure that he was a more manageable size for me.

I went straight on the drip and he was born on less than three hours. Aside from breaking the sac, no instruments were needed, I had a vaginal birth. The contractions produced by the Pitocin are major, they bloomin’ hurt. But it was over quickly and he scored 10 on his Apgar test so he was fine-if v. angry that he’d been abruptly pushed out. 🤣 Good luck with whatever you decide. 💐

Is even an induction not a natural birth now 🧐

I had the pessary induction after two spontaneous births. I can’t say it was that much different really. Once contractions started properly, my baby was born within about 10 minutes, but my second had been a lot quicker than my first, so I wasn’t really surprised. Other than that, it was fairly similar to the other two, no instruments or assistance needed.

Lol no of course not. Nothing natrual about it! No judgement BTW I had an induction with my second, but I think it would be very sad indeed to pretend it was natrual. Unmedicated and a good experience yes but natrual no.

I had one spontaneous birth and 3 inductions and with none of them have I had complications. A couple of small tears here and there but I have big babies so no surprise really.

I've had 3 different types of inductions. 1st just broke waters and waited for contractions. 2nd was pessary and 3rd was the drip and the only one I had an epidural with. All labour's was under 6 hours fastest was 1 hour.

Yes, I had DC1 with no induction, followed by DC2 who was induced because of going quite far overdue and also looked like a butterball in the last ultrasound before delivery.
It was a textbook induction. I asked the doctor how long he thought it would take as they hooked my up to the pitocin IV and he said the baby would be born seven hours from then. He was off by six minutes.
DC3 arrived with no nudging.
DC4 - late and measuring large, had a pessary, waters broke six hours later, baby born three and a half hours later. Snoozed between pessary insertion and flooding the bed.
DC5 - I had GD and baby measured large. Induced by pesaary the day before due date. Baby born two days later. Snoozed a lot while waiting.

Thanks for everyone’s reassuring replies! My MW has given me some information to read through regarding different induction options. I personally feel that if my waters broke we’d be full steam ahead! But my waters didn’t break until the pushing stage with either of my other two so I don’t think it’s likely.

definitely feeling a bit more confident about my options now
