No fetal pole at 6+1 & no pregnancy symptoms

Hello,

After 2 mmc last year, I'm pregnant again & currently having no pregnancy symptoms, the EPU booked me in for a scan yesterday when I would be 6+1 (based on LMP). The sonographer said he could see a gestational sac & yolk sac but no fetal pole. He didn't seem overly concerned and said he thought we were just a bit early being scanned and I have to go back in 9 days to be rescanned.

I'm really nervous that this is another mmc, Im right on my dates for LMP but I don't know when I ovulated to be fair, but I have zero pregnancy symptoms- I'm slightly tired (but I'm always tired pre pregnancy) & had some of the usual cramping in weeks 4-5 but in my last 2 pregnancies (although both ended in mc) I had loads of symptoms by now. Based on this I think the pregnancy has stopped progressing :(

Of course, nobody can tell me what will happen but I just wondered if anyone had no fetal pole at 6+1 but all ended up ok, & also if you had no symptoms but it progressed ok?

Thanks

I get so anxious about things like that too, but definitely what you described doesn't sound like inherently bad news. I had zero symptoms at that point other than unusually sensitive nipples; morning sickness etc hit later. And if the sonographer wasn't overly concerned at the scan, it could well just be too early. Hang in there 💕

Thank you so much for replying and for your kind words. I really appreciate it. I'm just keeping everything crossed but I'm expecting the worst next week as it feels like everything is pointing in the wrong direction. The uncertainty of early pregnancy is awful!!

I was scanned at 6 weeks and saw the same thing. They didn’t offer me a re-scan as they could see it wasn’t ectopic but it all turned out absolutely fine. They told me I was a few days behind (which I knew wasn’t true) but the dates had caught up by the 12 week scan. They said a couple of days makes a huge difference to what they can see at that stage!

Thank you so much for sharing your positive story! I'm so pleased it all worked out well for you. That does give me some hope that things could work out ok 🤞🏼.

No problem @Spence91I hope it all works out for you! Just to add, I’ve had three pregnancies (the first ectopic) and I’ve had completely different symptoms in all of them.

By 6 weeks in my current pregnancy I was having nausea which rapidly turned into sickness by week 7. But in my pregnancy with my DD (when I was scanned at 6 weeks) I don’t really remember having any symptoms other than tiredness at that stage and some cramping. It’s wild how different symptoms can be between pregnancies!

Thank you so much again, that really helps more than you know. I've been stressing so much over a lack of symptoms so it's really comforting to know others have experienced different symptoms in each pregnancy.

I know that doesn't mean it'll all work out for me, but knowing it doesn't inherently mean it will go wrong is something to hold onto 🤞🏼.

I'm on my third pregnancy since July. The first two I had hyperemesis and sick leave due to symptoms and both ended in miscarriage. I'm pregnant again barely any symptoms but am now 13 weeks and have had a successful dating scan! I was over 7 weeks when I found out I was expecting!

This happened to me with my first pregnancy, I thought I was 6 weeks based on lmp, had an early scan and only sac and yolk sac seen and no fetal pole. They estimated 5+2 weeks instead of 6 and labeled inconclusive scan. Went back for the rescan and there was a fetal pole and heartbeat, she’s now my 4 year old dd.

Spinnergou · 27/03/2025 19:18

This happened to me also, went for a scan at 6.3 due to having no pregnancy symptoms and feeling paranoid as I had such severe sickness immediately with previous pregnancies, even one which ended in MMC. They found sac and yolk sac, measuring around 6 weeks size but no pole. I went into a spiral of googling and an Google saying re anembryonic pregnancies, but by my rescan at 8.3 they had appeared and were measuring spot on for 8.3.

@Superscientist thank you so much for replying, that's crazy how different your symptoms were- but that does give me some comfort that the lack of symptoms might not mean it's all doomed. Thanks again

@Overthebow thanks so much for sharing your positive story!! I'm so pleased it all worked out ok for you & it definitely gives me some hope that it could work out for us🤞🏼

@Spinnergou your story sounds so similar to mine!! Thank you for sharing it with me, it's so so helpful and I am really grateful. You've definitely given me hope and that'll help get me through the next week 🙏🏼

Honestly, thank you all so much for replying and sharing your stories, it's so kind and really appreciated
