Back pain in 2nd trimester

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have just had to leave work an hour early because sitting in the office chair was causing me such severe pain in my lower back that I just couldn't stay there.

I have put on probably too much weight, about 8-9kg so far and I was already overweight before (BMI 28) with some back issues.

Has anyone had similar? I'm getting worried for what's still to come and how much bigger I will get, causing even more pressure on my back. I knew I'd probably struggle a bit but it feels too early for this much discomfort.

I saw a physio about a month ago, it wasn't as bad then, but she just recommended a pregnancy bump band which I'm not really big enough for yet. I also do pregnancy yoga already and walk a lot.

Has anyone had bad back pain at this stage and been OK for the rest of the pregnancy? Just so worried! TIA

I don't have a lot of advice tbh so I'm mostly following hoping someone else can help, so sorry about that.

But I'm 19 weeks and the back pain is agony. My BMI was higher than yours (35) and I've gained about 4kg since my booking appointment 11 weeks ago. The only thing I've been suggested is heat pads, which I intend on getting asap.

I had back pain in my last pregnancy from about 24 weeks onwards. I had it on and off (mostly it was there a lot) throughout and even for the first year afterwards. But afterwards it was only when holding my son.

Im pregnant again now and 36 weeks this time and I have only had it a very very minor amount so far. Mostly if my toddler wants to be carried for more than 5/10 minutes or if I’m slouching on the sofa in the evening without a cushion. I always thought it was the bump and weight from it but after being pregnant again I now think I had very weak core muscles. I never went to the gym, only lots of walking so I think it was my upper body muscles or lack of them with the new weight distribution both during and post pregnancy.

When my son was born I held him quite a lot of the time and went through stages of my back and forearms really really hurting as he got bigger. So he became my workout (not by choice) until at about 9 months old they didn’t hurt anymore. I also found a structured carrier that had cross back straps like Ergobaby helped a lot (any would likely work as long as they can cross over at the back).

Keep up your fitness and eat healthily - you don't need to put on excess weight. No biscuits, lollies etc. You also don't need Diabetes.

Go back to the physio and ask for some daily exercises and recommendations for how/what to sit on etc.
