31+4 and ended up in triage last night. Over the past 10 days or so I’ve been vomiting, had so much nausea and pressure under my ribs. Also a niggly headache over the past few days that has been responding to paracetamol. What sent me over the edge yesterday was the most awful headache, the worst I’ve ever had. Paracetamol did nothing. After a few hours in triage, they gave me codeine which didn’t touch it either, so they gave me morphine. I told them it helped a little, but the headache was ultimately still there, and they were happy for me to go home at that point. They checked my BP once when I first got there and it was fine so they didn’t check it after that. But when I’ve been checking it at home it has been fluctuating, mostly fine but also creeping up to around 140/80 at points, which I explained. I’ve also recently had some bloods back which showed elevated ALP and inflammation.
The ward was busy and it was practically one in one out of a bed, so I understand they wanted me out ASAP. However, they didn’t really give any answers other than “headaches are common in pregnancy!” And I guess I’m wondering if it’s normal to be having severe headaches that don’t respond to such strong medication?? I explained I was concerned about the start of pre-eclampsia as my mum delivered me early as she had it, so it is considered to be a risk for me and baby.
I wish I advocated for myself more at the time, but I was pretty drowsy and dosed up on painkillers, and it was also nearly 1am, so I’d appreciate any insight/advice! They didn’t say what to particularly look out for, at what point to call triage again, whether I should be monitoring at home etc.
