How was your birth with HG?

Also posted on childbirth - I still have a fair bit to go until I will be having baby but I have been thinking of my birth options the past few days. I do have a midwife appointment soon so I will also discuss with her, I would just like to hear some real experiences. How was your birth with HG? I was induced with my son years ago and delivered vaginally. I just cannot bare the thought of another induction or even labouring/pushing right now as I feel so unwell. I'm currently on 2 different types of medication for my hyperemesis as well as receiving injections twice a week for this too. I have been thinking of elective c section as my body just feels so weak but I also realise that this is major surgery and the recovery scares me. Grateful for any experiences/thoughts as I'm feeling pretty crap about everything tbh.

Hi hun, I have 2 boys and I had hg from 3 weeks until I gave birth. The minute I had them both I my was like a flip switched and I was totally normal again, I was starving too! I did have both them vaginally, I just remember feeling full of adrenaline when in labour, and I was sick when in labour too! With number 2 the midwife took my gas and air away because she thought that made me sick, I was too far along for other pain relief and it was a quick labour (1 hour 40 from arriving at the hospital).
with both my boys I was admitted a lot and given anti sickness injections and bags of fluid, I think my record was 10 bags in one night! Hg is horrible and no one really understands unless they had it too. The amount of people that recommend ginger snaps! 🤢 I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly and your midwife can advise you better ❤️

I had an emergency c section with my first and was very sick in labour/post c-section and the day after. I had anti-sickness injections to help. From what I can remember, I felt much better by the time I went home.

My experience was very similar to @MissMarvelMum - almost the exact same thing. I also thought the gas and air was making me throw up more, so I gave up with that.
My waters had already broken 48hrs previously but nothing happened, so I was induced. But I’m assuming because my waters were already gone, my body didn’t need that much of a nudge to get things going! I was only on the drip for a short time, then the midwife stopped it and my labour progressed normally. It only took 3 hours from me being hooked up to the drip to DD1 being born, and like @MissMarvelMum said: it was like a switch was flipped. I felt normal for the first time in 9 months. I devoured the post-birth tea and toast like I’d never been fed before 😂

I had an emergency section the first time and second was a planned one.
First time I had gas and air and I actually found it good and didn’t make me feel sick.
I think either way is possible really. Having a newborn was so easy compared to HG!

Thank you all it’s good to hear real experiences. There is just so much to think about, which is tough when you feel so unwell. I’m probably just overthinking everything! ❤

I had severe HG and felt like I was quite literally going to die every day

I didn't have the energy to do anything and I was pretty much bed bound both of my pregnancies - my 2nd was much worse.

But girl let me tell you when those contractions started that adrenaline got me through, idk where my energy came from...Well I do, it was the motivation of knowing that once baby was out I wouldn't be throwing up anymore and I could eat again!! 😅

I birthed her myself at home in our bathroom (unplanned!) My push present to myself was a mcdonalds 🤣

I felt SO good once that placenta was out, I'm never getting pregnant again, and I know I will never ever reach that high again that I felt once the HG had gone 🤣

Hope this makes you feel abit better!

My hyperemesis kindly stopped at 36 weeks and my baby arrived at 38 weeks.

I was medicated all the way through to birth for HG. I ended up with several inductions before proper labour actually started, and it all ended up with an EMCS anyway. But as soon as I recovered from the birth itself, my HG was gone!

Now pregnant with number 2 - I've pretty much already decided on an elective section this time. I've heard from many sources that recovery from an elective section is usually much easier than from an emergency section!
