For those going through pregnancy with a partner, I'd be very curious as to whether they know off the top of their heads how far along you are?

The reason I ask is that I just discovered my husband doesn't! He was asked and gave a response 5 weeks out! I'm wondering how normal this is.

It just struck me that I'm here counting down each day and week, and he's not even in the right trimester! 😂

(I should say in his defence that we both agreed not to get our hopes up after previous losses, so he's probably not thinking about it rather than doesn't care)

He forgets every time I tell him but he asks at least once a week how far along we are. He’s very involved with this pregnancy and talk to the baby all the time even though I’m only 10 weeks

Aw, I love that 🥰

My husband knows better than I do! I didn’t know my due date as we had three different dates (from LMP, private scan and NHS 12 weeks scan) and he had to tell me which one was the ‘official’ due date 🤦🏻‍♀️

LoveHearts69 · 24/03/2025 13:17

I used to feel worried when my husband didn’t know how far pregnant I was or didn’t seem as excited about the baby kicking as I was but he’s the absolute best dad since baby was born. Some men just really struggle to bond with the concept when we’re pregnant and it doesn’t seem real to them until baby is here.

romdowa · 24/03/2025 13:19

I just asked him and he hasn't a clue 🤣 to be fair some weeks I have to check my pregnancy app myself

Elz1406 · 24/03/2025 17:04

My husband definitely doesn't know when appointments are or exactly how many weeks etc.😂

But he's a wonderful, hands on dad to our DS and not knowing that stuff has had no correlation to how caring he is as a parent. :)

I know it can feel a bit nuts that we know every little movement and they don't know the gestation! Xx

I have ADHD and required an app to tell me. DH would have had it all stored in his calendar. Opposites attract.

RobinHeartella · 24/03/2025 18:17

My dh always knew but I had terrible pregnancies so we were counting down the weeks for whatever awfulness was happening to end. Like morning sickness.

He can say how old the kids are to the month, as well as their current clothing size.

But not shoe size. Shoe size seems to be a bit of a blind spot for dads on here

Btowngirl · 24/03/2025 18:21

My wife & I have both carried and despite having carried herself, could never remember how far along we were with our youngest. Things are just harder to remember when you’re not physically living them. To add, we completely 50/50 parent our girls so it’s not a reflection of things to come necessarily 😂

OptimisticRealist2024 · 24/03/2025 18:23

DH is better than I am! After 20 weeks I had to scribble it onto my kitchen calendar, so now I check that when I can't remember 🫠

We don't mark the weeks anymore, now that I'm 27 weeks (thank you, kitchen calendar) so periodically I'll be told by DH that I'm harbouring a cauliflower or cucumber or whatever but we followed it closely in the beginning to use up the nervous energy. The veg still doesn't help me visualise it. 😂 Although I've started to look nervously at watermelons in the supermarket these days...

Halo20 · 24/03/2025 18:31

Yes but I am 38 weeks so realistically he needs to as I could go into labour at any point.

Springee · 24/03/2025 18:34

Since the 40 weeks is actually 38 it's a bit of a nonsense anyway. Months are more useful descriptively speaking and as long as other half knows due date and has important scan dates etc. in their diary ...

sel2223 · 24/03/2025 22:49

Only right at the end - before that he insisted on always saying it in months instead of weeks and would pretty much always be at least one month out!

Frogs32 · 25/03/2025 22:39

My partner always got it wrong by a couple of weeks, he knew towards the end lol and he is now the best dad so I don't think it matters much

BubblegumGiraffe · 25/03/2025 22:46

Nope, knew the due date but not the weeks. Didn’t expect him to either really! He’s a great dad.

butterflycr · 26/03/2025 07:05

Of course he knows. He's the baby's dad.

Didn't realise that I was in the minority here.

ShinyWorthKeeping · 26/03/2025 07:09

I just asked DP, he said "18? No....22? ....30?" I'm 16 weeks tomorrow 😂🙃 he knew the due date though!

oustedbymymate · 26/03/2025 07:10

No he didn't. It wasn't that he wasn't interested it just didn't register. He knew when baby was due. I would tell him weeks.
