anyone considering smoking/vaping in pregnancy could do with having a look st a photo of the placenta of someone who has done this. Why bother having a child if you are going to poison them before they are even born.

DingDingRound3 · 23/03/2025 23:07

Are you seeking permission?

Isitme27 · 23/03/2025 23:07

Have you vaped during pregnancy? If so, why?

annonymas · 23/03/2025 23:22

No actually I have quit but I wanted advice and help as I’m clueless to this was just looking for advice that’s it….

If you haven't done it then you don't need to worry

There is nothing wrong with curiosity… I don’t have cancer but I read up on it out of genuine curiosity and hatred of it 🤷🏻‍♀️

the placenta is affected by the tar, which vapes don’t have
Obviously its best not to use nicotine but if nicotine replacement such as an e cig or patches or gum keeps you from smoking then thats better than smoking

XMummyTo5X · 24/03/2025 01:57

i was wondering about this myself and infact turned to google 😆

I take it you vape?

CatsandDogs22 · 24/03/2025 07:23

Ok I read that NHS page about vaping and all it said was there hasn’t been enough research but it probably isn’t as bad as smoking.

Would you use any other drug during pregnancy that hasn’t been studied but “probably isn’t as bad as smoking”.

The Australian advice is there is no known safe level of vaping and the potential side effects are X, Y & Z. https://www.health.gov.au/topics/smoking-vaping-and-tobacco/audiences/pregnancy

I wouldn’t do it if I were you, just like I isn’t drink alcohol because there is no known safe level.

Middleagedstriker · 24/03/2025 07:38

It's a great time to stop vaping. I smoked for 15 years before having DC. Stopped during pregnancy and haven't smoked for 20 years. I have saved £££ and health, my kids don't see smoking as normal (as I did growing up).
The effects of vaping isn't yet understood as it can take decades to get a clear understanding and they haven't been around that long. However common sense suggests that putting toxins in your body which travel in the blood stream are likely possible to be damaging to a foetus.

charmanderflame · 24/03/2025 07:51

Do your vapes have nicotine in them? Nicotine 'permanently damages a baby's developing brain and many other organs' - it's not just the tar in cigarettes as someone said above.

Even if they don't contain nicotine, the flavorings, solvents, and other chemicals in e-cigarettes may harm you and your baby.

All this says about pregnancy is that vaping is "likely to be less harmful than smoking".

That's not saying much. Smoking during pregnancy can do huge damage to the baby. This is not saying that vaping is safe, just that it's not as bad as basically one of the worst things you can do in pregnancy (or to your body generally!)

There are lots of things less harmful than smoking that can still cause a lot of harm to an unborn child.

ImAChangeling · 24/03/2025 07:54

The long term effects of vaping aren’t known because they haven’t been around for long enough, so it’s better to get help with staying off them if you’re feeling tempted. If you’ve got a good GP they should help and not judge.

Upinthetreetops · 24/03/2025 08:32

There's huge research happening into this at the moment, and it looks like there's so many possible effects on a baby during pregnancy and into early childhood that we don't yet know about.

I don't know specifically about increased amniotic fluid levels. But there is certainly potential for baby to experience withdrawals as the amount of nicotine consumed through vaping is huge, even more than cigarettes.

The fact that some countries recommend vaping in pregnancy over smoking is likely to be withdrawn when the new research comes out. It's all very interesting!

i quite smoking when i was pregnant with my daughter 2 years ago through the help to quite scheme by my midwife who actually said, she would prefer a woman to vape than smoke! (she also vaped herself) but i use 0.1% nictoeine liquid.. but i have been thinking where to quite vaping or not as i have just recently found out i am pregnant.. & tbf i dont want to be walking down the street heavily pregnant with a vape in my mouth 🙄 wouldn't be a good look would it through the eyes of others.

XMummyTo5X · 24/03/2025 09:49

yes i am aware of the damage SMOKING can do in pregnancy.. i was just sharing the link for @annonymas to look at so she can read it through and make a judgement of what to do herself.

@XMummyTo5X
Do you not realise that Karen is an insult to women? Or do you not care?

backinthebox · 24/03/2025 09:56

Using the misogynistic slur ‘Karen’ = ignorant poster resorting to an insult they don’t understand (especially if they are a woman using it.)

XMummyTo5X · 24/03/2025 10:00

sorry if im coming across that way, that wasn't my intentions! i will blame that one on my hormones 😆 but it was just some of the comments on here, it would be no different if she posted a question about caffeine consumption whilst pregnant, some would say "dont worry i drank coffee in pregnancy and my baby was fine" & "no you shouldn't it can cause misscarriage" - as stated by the NHS website itself of a list of foods/drinks that can pose a risk to baby that can lead to misscarriage.. which is no different to if a woman who smokes/vapes in pregnancy - you would still get alot of mixed opinions... i wasn't encouraging her to do either, it is simply her choice but thats why i shared the link so she can take that decision upon herself, and also share from experience - a midwife won't scrutinize her for it if she did, as i believe they would much rather a woman vape than SMOKE.. which is exactly what my midwifes own words were to me.

i do understand the meaning of the word Karen. can't believe how some of you are crying over a word 😂 just my sense of humour.. my 10 year old son called me Karen the other day as apparently all i do is moan about his untidy room and tell him what to do 🙄 get a grip will ya.

BodenCardiganNot · 24/03/2025 10:28

Not crying over a word at all. It's more the lack of understanding and
awareness you seem to have of the harm you do with that word - and your 10 year old son using it as well? Does that not worry you?
