Is the disgusting taste in my mouth going to last throughout the entire pregnancy?

I'm 19 weeks pg and a big foodie, used to work as a chef, love my food etc. I'm so fed up of this gross taste in my mouth that has come with pregnancy - I can't describe it but I really don't like it and it always comes back strongly at the end of meals which makes me forget that I've enjoyed what I've eaten. Will it go away before the (far-off seeming) birth?

Thanks.

Mine went at 17 weeks - the only way I could cope at the time was to constantly eat 'bad' foods such as sweets, chocolate and ice cream. Hopefully your's will go soon - do you still have nausea?

It should ease off soon. Mine went in the second trimester.

I've had this in all 3 pregnancies - in fact it's been the first sign of being pregnant each time as it starts at 3 weeks. Second time round I even tested negative twice before I finally got a positive, thought I was going bonkers as I knew and recognised 'the taste'!

Anyway, to some extent I get it all the way through, though it does fade, and I'm now 20 weeks and just beginning to be able to enjoy food again to some extent (evenings are the worst time of day still for me). I'm also a foodie - and one of my biggest sadnesses in pregnancy is how my passion for eating is affected because everything tastes weird, and in between meals I can taste 'the taste'!!

So, although it does fade ... I don't think in my case the taste ever goes. There are some things that just don't taste normal throughout pregnancy - tea tastes metallic and disgusting, wine tastes like vinegar, and eating fish is a real challenge. And the day after giving birth (the last two times) I get this overwhelming relief that the taste has gone. And I'm immediately back drinking cups of tea and craving a glass of cool white wine!!

Thanks. Seems like it's a really personal thing - mine comes and goes and can be linked to feeling nauseous, although generally my nausea has gone, thank goodness. was having a bit of a grumpy day when I posted and everything was getting on my nerves. It's not that bad really!

Pidge - agree with you on tea, I haven't had a hot drink for months! THough thankfully have been able to eat tons of fish as it doesn't make me feel full and therefore likely to be sick...

Best of luck with bumps girls!

Chewing gum helped me - well, eating anything helped, but chewing gum stopped me constantly stuffing my face with chocolate.

I think mine did fade.

I had this weirdy smell though that didn't - My flat mate poured drain cleaner down the sink when I was early pregnancy and I was convinced that every time I came home I could smell this evil chemical stench... then I got pregnant with DS and the same smell came back
