Hi all hoping you can help me! in for c section tomorrow and am on serious nesting mode today. I have a range of the tomee tippee grow bag/sleep bags. I had assumed given temperature I would do best, sleep suit and a 2.5 tog but room temperature averaging somewhere at 19 degrees at night would you drop this down to a 1.5 tog please?

also advice on the best baby bottles? again I have tommee tipee ones but think I need more!

thank you!!!

Are they sleeping bags that are suitable from birth? They usually have a minimum weight limit.

I swear by the love 2 dream 1 tog ones

At the minute, my 6mo is in a short vest, sleepsuit and 2.5tog overnight. I think the room averages about 18degC

I appreciate why you are worried, I was the same. But I used to think, I'll go for the cooler end and they'll be up within a couple of hours anyway and I can always increase the layers/ swap for a higher tog then. Soon, you'll know your baby (like with everything, few of them actually follow the exact tog recommendations wrt their preferences! And the recommendations vary anyway!)

BitOutOfPractice · 23/03/2025 16:18

Aww congrats on the imminent arrival!

I genuinely read this as “sleep suits for dogs”. 😬

Hiya :) When my DS was born the midwives said to start with tucked in blankets and move to sleep sacks around 3 months but not sure if that's universal advice or not!

My 1 year old is in a vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog atm but thinking to move to a 1 tog now with the warmer weather. The temp in the room is around 17/18

I know when he was first born we erred towards it being better for him to be too cool than too warm which I think is the general advice. I think the idea is that if they're too cold they'll generally cry to let you know but not necessarily if too hot!

I do remember this being a real source of anxiety at the beginning but after a little while we got confident with the go for cooler approach and baby always felt a nice warm but not clammy temp when we felt. :) Hope all goes well for you with your new little cutie!xxx

Edited

I also found it easier to stick with tucked in blankets for the first 2 or 3 months then went to sleeping bag

It has been years since I needed them but baby sleeping bags were only suitable once they weighed 10lbs if I recall. We used 2.5 the most and the lighter ones were used in the summer.

There's a lot of these tables around so don't know if they're consistent, but would this help you? (Can't speak from experience yet...)
