When did/would you tell work

Just wondering when did/would you tell work about your pregnancy, I understand different jobs have different risks and if it’s a low risk job then keeping it quiet longer but if you have a slightly riskier job when would you inform them ?

I informed mine as soon as I found out just as my job role would need adapting.
if everything was low risk I think it would depend if I was struggling with morning sickness etc

PurpleTurtleMoose · 20/03/2025 16:44

I'm hoping not to do it until the legal deadline. I just don't want them to look at me differently. Not sure I'll manage to hold out as I'm starting to show. I have a desk job though so that does make things easier

MumDSDD · 20/03/2025 16:45

@Emma543what kind of job are you doing, my job is a mix of low and high risks as every day is different, look after young people and as I say most days are great but can be occasions of aggression and higher risks

Told mine at 4 weeks so I could get the risk assessment done and any jobs that would be needing adjusting. Plus I felt absolutely exhausted, and anyways from week 6 I was off for a while with awful morning sickness so I was glad my line manager already knew. I just asked him to keep it between us (me and the managers) for the time being, which they thankfully did

MumDSDD · 20/03/2025 16:49

@Shynslkwhat type of work do you do ?

As soon as I find out. I'm a lab user not no longer a regular user. Another factor for me is having hyperemesis in 3 of 4 pregnancies usually resulting in sick leave by 7 weeks it's always been helpful for them to have already known when needing adjustments for first trimester symptoms!

Shynslk · 20/03/2025 16:52

@MumDSDD warehouse. So a lot of jobs required heavy lifting and using a pallet truck which I wasn't able to do anymore

HundredPercentUnsure · 20/03/2025 16:55

About 5w, I was high risk pregnancy with medical intervention from about then, and I was also working in a volatile class (teacher) with regular behaviour blow outs requiring whole class evacuations so needed the support from leadership team from early on to help keep me and baby safe.

Wanted to keep it underwraps as long as possible, so told them at 16 weeks. I could have easily kept it quiet for longer. At least 20 weeks.

I told my managers as soon as I found out, but I work at a hospital in the x ray department so my job involves a lot of manual handling and obviously sometimes being exposed to radiation, to be honest it’s just personal preference, I’ve found them to be great if I have appointments etc. I also had a MMC 3 months ago and I did the same in that pregnancy and it definitely made it a lot easier after that when they already knew I was pregnant x

CharlieAndMoose · 20/03/2025 18:08

Told my line manager and HR immediately but they knew I was going through IVF. With colleagues I waited until about 16 weeks.

anon1411 · 20/03/2025 18:59

I've just found out I'm pregnant and possibly already 8 weeks along 😅 and im hoping to keep it quiet until at least 12 weeks!

With my first born I told them at like 4 weeks and I kind of wished I'd kept it our little secret for a little longer than that.

PinguGiraffe · 20/03/2025 20:32

Low risk job, but I didn't tell my line manager until 18 weeks. First trimester was a challenge but I was lucky to have some flexibility and work from home so came up with excuses when I was struggling. Didn't want it to be public until after my 20week scan though, some people are only just finding out at 28 weeks!

OptimisticRealist2024 · 20/03/2025 21:41

I wfh 100% of the time but have a lot of meetings and have had horrific morning sickness. I told my manager at 5 weeks, HR at 13 weeks, colleagues around 16 weeks.

CaffeineAndCrochet · 20/03/2025 21:56

Told my immediate manager at 13 weeks as I had appointments coming up and I didn't want to take more annual leave for them. 21 weeks now and haven't yet told anyone else but it's getting impossible to hide.

GreatTheCat · 20/03/2025 22:00

My role sounds like yours OP. I told them from the moment I found out. Didn't want to do any physical holding, which didn't happen anyways.
