Was it different to your first? Easier or harder?

Just wanted some advice etc. on how recovery was after a second c-section.

Thank you in advance.

Easier. Maybe because 1 was emmergency, 2 was last minute elective. Discharged after 2 nights, got home and got out and about with new baby and toddler.

Easier. Both of mine were emergency sections. Was up walking about a lot quicker 2nd time round. I think the fact I knew what to expect made it easier both mentally and physically.

Yeah, it was fine. It wasn't any harder than my first, which went pretty well.

It was incredible.
First was an emergency, second was an emergency but not for safety concerns so it felt totally different.
Surgery was about 8am and I was home by lunch time the following day. I was discharged 23 hours after my first was born by EMCS and felt like a bus had hit me, I barely moved in the hospital never mind sat up.
I was able to eat this time, get washed and changed etc.
Recovery at home was much faster.

Much easier. Both planned. First one I think I went into shock, second one I was so determined to stay positive I absolutely loved it. Was up and about by lunch. I did have terrible wind both times, second in my shoulder so was mainlining peppermint.

Much easier as I knew what to expect. Kept in for just 1 night. Was driving after 2 weeks. Kept on top of pain medication. Took walking slow & steady. Had a changing station in every floor (3 storey house). Only went upstairs once at night when I went to bed. DH knew what to do to support me better (all night feeds for the first few weeks). Also had it in the summer so it was much easier having a newborn than in deepest darkest winter like DC1.

A breeze, I was driving after 10 days (out of necessity)

Easier.

Whycanineverthinkofone · 18/03/2025 15:59

Much harder, both the process and recovery.

first was EMCS and done very quickly. Over, done with little fuss, the concern was more about the baby.

second was an ELCS so slower and the placing of the epidural took an hour and was excruciating. I have scars on my back from the missed attempts. Recovery was so sore and I felt so sick and shaky. Add that to trying to recover while also caring for a toddler. Took ages.

I found the mobility side much easier 2nd time and was active quicker but my scar healing and stomach muscle pain have been a lot worse 2nd time- maybe due to overdoing it having another child to look after too.
