Motivating Music For Labour

Newbie here.

I'm one of those girls who has never been able to get on with the supposedly relaxing 'whale/dolphin noises' or 'birdsong' or 'wind through the trees' music. It tends to wind me up rather than calm me down, so i've been thinking recently about what music would be fun, relaxing and motivating for when I want something upbeat during labour.

A couple I've thought of are 'Don't stop me now' by Queen and 'Come on Eileen' by Dexy's Midnight Runners. You know, the old classics they play in the cheesy clubs (not that I go clubbing anymore!!).

Anyone got any other suggestions? I asked my dh and he suggested Push It by Salt n Pepa. Mmmmmmm!! There might be too much risk of me having a sense of humour failure if that came on the stereo ).

I'd love to hear any suggestions, sense of humour required or otherwise!!!

Listening to any type of music during labour would have absolutely done my head in

Good luck with everything

I had my ipod on shuffle for early labour but very quickly got pissed off with it. Before being in labour I thought along the same lines as you, however, once there I wanted silence!

Even people speaking pissed me off!

I would say be open minded about what you think you may and may not like during labour.

They suggest you don't have songs that evoke memories or get the adrenaline going - as these can affect your labour, and not in a good way.

Maybe something mellow that isn't whale music? But of course it is different strokes for different folks, so do what you fancy.

Oh blimey yeah, I forgot about people talking. I could have bloody hit the mw's at times

Thanks everyone. I hadn't thought that actually silence might be preferable - it's a good point! And Iliketomoveitmoveit i'd also not considered the adrenaline issue - is that because it can slow down labour?

Yep, adrenaline slows down labour and I think stops you from producing other hormones that help with labour - although can't remember what those hormones are - doah!
