How long in an infant carrier car set then?

One for second time (or subsequent) parents.

My sister has just told me that babies shouldn't spend more than an hour and a half a day in an infant carrier/car seat thing.

Is this right? Up to what age? My nearest supermarket is half and hour's drive away, my PIL 4 hours, Mum 5 hours....

We are planning on getting a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix to go with the Quinny Buzz we bought second hand a few weeks ago.

2 huors without abreak. this includes your journey time.

so for a 4 hour journey, take a break halfway through, get baby out to have a stretch, feed, bum change etc.

when actually out and about use the buggy seat and not the car seat.

That's good news... thought I was going to be isolated in up north for a while!

I was told by my HV that it is to do with cd risks, which why they give this advice out now.

Also the time a baby spends in one of these can clock up very quickly.

What's CD ?

CD = cot death

The concern is with a baby with no musculature being in a "sitting" position, resulting in it slumping down in the chair - there's thought to be a potential impact on oxygen intake and a potential link to cot death / SIDS.

Does the seat on a Buzz go flat (or nearly so)? If you're going to use the buggy as a break from the car seat for a newborn, you need a buggy seat that allows the hip joint to open so that the baby lies in a stretched out postion. If the buzz won't let you do that, you may need to get a caricot to go with it, or come up with alternative plan.

Hi Tangle, got the Buzz carrycot.

Then you're OK As long as you can fit the buggy, the carrycot, the luggage - and the baby - in the car. We were shocked the first time we tried to go away (although we did take a moses basket as well...)
