August baby- summer maternity trousers or shorts

Hello

Wondering if anyone has had success with their summer maternity wardrobe yet?
I have black frugi leggings and maternity jeans but thinking about some summer things. Maybe some khaki lightweight trousers or some denim shorts?

My LO was a March baby so didn't have to worry about warm weather the first time round 😊

I’m wondering the same! My first is a March baby so I could just wear big jumpers and jeans. An August baby this time round now thrown me a bit with clothing!
I think a loose jumpsuit will be great though. I’ve got some oversized T-shirts that I can throw on with leggings. Also bought some loose wide legged trousers which should be good for summer 🤞
I’m thinking maybe a couple of lightweight maternity dresses as well.

Oh hi @Row23

We both planned this badly in terms of reusing maternity clothes 😅

I've bought a Seraphine summer dress and might look out for another. I'm more of a dress girl normally myself so find that a bit easier to kind of 'imagine'.
Do you have a link to the trousers you bought at all? I don't know if I need maternity specific or just something loose to go under the bump 🤔

Oooh on the jumpsuit, meant to say I've got one of these which I hope will still work www.passenger-clothing.com/products/copetin-jumpsuit-seaweed-blue-steel

I'll get shot for this but: shein.
You will wear it for few months at most so no reason to spend much.
If you want try vinted or ebay for second hand stuff.

JuneySunshine · 13/03/2025 14:45

Wouldn't personally use She-in given findings around toxic chemicals and would encourage anyone doing so to pre-wah anything before wearing.

Love Vinted though, but do find things hard to envisage in terms of maternity wear hence looking for a bit of inspiration.

DD1 was born in late June of a heatwave year. I also found it really hard to find maternity shorts (I think i found one expensive pair in Jojo Maman Bebe!) But New Look and H&M both do cheap maternity anti chafing short / cycling shorts, so i mostly wore those under maternity summer dresses. H&M Mama range is fab if you haven't looked at that yet but I would think it's maybe too early for their summer stuff to be available yet.

CrispAppleStrudels · 13/03/2025 14:48

The shorts doubled up as lounge wear under loose t-shirts for days when just relaxing at home. Although by the end, sorry to say that i was so hot and uncomfortable, I spent most days at home in bra and knickers. (We are in London - it was 30c to 33c most days for the last month of my pregnancy.)

JuneySunshine · 13/03/2025 15:03

@CrispAppleStrudels Oh.no.
I refuse to believe I've got to struggle through a summer of those kinds of temperatures 😕

Thanks for the tip on the cycle shorts, they sound like an essential.

I bought these and as they have an elasticated waist they should fit nicely just under the bump and not be too tight post partum. Could also size up in these sorts of trousers so they’ll fit more in your bump maybe?

I feel like we planned this badly in terms of reusing baby clothes as well! All the lovely stuff I have saved from my first is the wrong season for this baby! Got loads of nice jumpers in 9-12 months when this one will be that age in summer next year 🙄

LovingMamaWifeTeacher · 13/03/2025 15:20

H&M do these ‘wide pull on trousers’ which are like a linen material and super comfy. I had them last year so have sized up as I will be huge over summer - nice Elasticated waist and very reasonably priced.

Oh cute!

Yes I hadn't really computed about baby clothes yet but that's a point 🙄May be more or less relevant once we find out the sex of ours at 20 weeks. Do you know you're having another boy/ another girl?

A maternity cotton dress that’s also breastfeeding friendly if you’re planning to. That way you can wear just the dress in June- August. Then keep wearing in Autumn with baby feeding. Adding tights or leggings and cardigan when it’s gets cooler.

Not sure about lightweight, but h and m did decent maternity jeans for about £20. And they were low stretch without huge band so comfy for the first few months after also. I’m sure they will do summer versions.

Autumn1990 · 13/03/2025 16:20

Baggy dresses or just joggers in a size too big worked fine for me for an august baby.
I wouldn’t worry about the baby clothes as my second was quite small so didn’t fit the summer clothes in the summer time that my previous child had fitted. Didn’t really matter as my second was mainly in baby grows

We had a private gender scan the other day and are having another boy - so can reuse the basic stuff thankfully!

Whatever you choose just make sure it’s natural fibres. I ordered a lot from H&M mama without checking the fabric composition. Very pretty PJs that turned out to be 50% polyester, so sweaty!! And their linen was ridiculously scratchy and went back. My best buys were an amazing soft stretchy jumpsuit from Clary and Peg and a bunch of cotton kaftans, elasticated waist trousers and dresses several sizes up from charity shops.

Dinosaurus86 · 13/03/2025 21:16

With DD, due in July, I was really fed up with all the maternity stuff. I bought a couple of maxi skirts with elastic waistbands in a size or two up, so I could just wear with a cotton tshirt.

Dinosaurus86 · 13/03/2025 21:19

Oh yes, on pyjamas I bought a short cotton pair from Chelsea Peers. A bit of a splurge but worth it - I used them loads, including when spending a week trapped on boiling hot antenatal ward.

(I also had a winter baby for DC1, so some things didn’t get much reuse)

Flopsy145 · 14/03/2025 08:56

I was due in July and from about april/may onwards I LIVED in body con thick material midi dresses, some under dress maternity cycling shorts and a denim jacket.

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 14/03/2025 11:59

I had an end of August baby (2020 when we had that heatwave!) I swore by jumpsuits off boohoo, not maternity ones just normal ones that would stretch so I could rewear. Maxi dresses and skirts etc. It was so nice!
