I had my scan today and was dated at 13w 2 day. The fluid on the back of the neck was measured at 2.50mm the lady seemed to suggest all was good from what she could see but knew I was getting the blood test to check for Downs etc…

when I went for my bloods the lady explained the process of how they take all the data and give me an outcome.

finally I just check the comments on the scan form and it basically says that they discussed it to me that the results of todays ultrasound and I am aware that the examination alone cannot exclude abnormalities…

Am I being paranoid or should I be concerned?

I’m not sure what you are asking?

They said the ultrasound appears normal but that doesn’t me there may not be any issues? That’s completely normal to say?

Nothing you have been told today means there is anything to be concerned about. All sounds like a standard straightforward appointment.

JuneySunshine · 12/03/2025 15:29

I don't think this is anything to worry about or specific to you OP.

I think its probably just a standard note saying 'Everything looked ok but we've explained the overall won't be confirmed until after bloods are analysed etc.'

BubblePug1985 · 12/03/2025 15:34

I think because the fluid was 2.5mm which is on the higher side of normal? I’m also 39 so obviously my age is factor

I really don't think you should worry. Normal range is normal range and if there was anyhting to worry about they would have raised it or signposted something like this https://www.nlg.nhs.uk/resources/raised-nuchal-translucency-nt-in-pregnancy/
But as far as I can see that's only for above 3.5mm

Are you wondering about the comment 'examination alone cannot exclude abnormalities…' ? Every ultrasound has to state this for legal reasons as they are never 100% certain. Some abnormalities will always be missed or aren't able to be diagnosed on ultrasound.

Sorry I am not aware of the normal limits with NT measurement so can't comment. Sonographer would have had to tell you if that was abnormal though, they're not allowed to withhold findings like that. The measurement is not linked to the conclusion comment though, it would be there regardless of the measurement.

DelphiniumHolly · 12/03/2025 15:57

2.5 for NT is completely within the realms of normal, you don’t need to worry about this. My DC measured 3.2 and 2.9 at the 12 week scans, respectively. Both are perfectly healthy.

They just mean that the ultrasound is only one component of the screening. Although the ultrasound is completely normal, your bloods might pick something else up.

Thanks all I appreciate your replies. I have a turbulent fertility journey so I can get a bit anxious at times. Thanks again
