So i have been taking pregancare original ( i am roughly 7 weeks pregnant havent had a scan yet) but these are making me violently sick and i cant stay awake on them. I have stopped taking them for 2 days and i have noticed my sickness and tiredness has gone. Is there any other recommended brands to try?

im based in the UK

Have you seen a midwife yet? Mine gave me some basic vitamins that just have folic acid and vitamin D which is all you need.

But it also might be coincidental as at 7 weeks my symptoms would disappear for a day sometimes then come back with a vengeance!

I'm taking cytoplan pregnancy vitamins and they haven't made me feel sick or constipated like the pregnacare ones did.

My midwife appointment is at the end of the month. I started taking them the day i found out i was pregnant ( about 3 weeks ago) and honestly i felt so rough the next day

Yeah; try any of the other brands. Pregnacare has a reputation for this!

It’s unusual for your midwife to provide vitamins. Or at least I was told it was when I asked, it’s a trial scheme in some areas. They will provide folic acid if you need it at a higher dose, because of a high BMI or other medical reason.

I got through 1.5 packs of Pregnacare, the 2 a day plus a fish oil capsule before I noticed they were making me ill.

I was 11 weeks at this point so I stopped them, I've carried on taking my usual Vit D supplement.

I don't absorb regular folic acid so the methylfolate in the pregnacare was really handy for me, had my 12 weeks scan last week and all was fine and I measured at 13 weeks.

Just take regular folic acid and they recommend vit D also.

Agree with all the above, Pregnacare made me so sick! I found it helped to take them at midday once I'd eaten, rather than on an empty tummy.

Just take folic acid on its own. That's the most important vitamin in early pregnancy

jellybe · 11/03/2025 13:03

But tescos or other supermarkets own brand folic acid and vitamin D. You don't need the over priced pregnacare stuff.

I took pregnancare in my first pregnancy and was so sick from around 7 weeks. The sickness and tiredness would come and go but on the days it was bad, it was awful.

Second pregnancy I only took folic acid and vitamin d as recommended, not pregnacare. My sickness and tiredness has been 100% worse this pregnancy and I'm still throwing up now at 37 weeks.

Genuinely no idea if the pregnacare was anything to do with it first time round or just a coincidence with normal pregnancy symptoms!

Pregnacare also made me sick in my first pregnancy - stopped taking them and jsut took folic acid and vitamin D. However, I did end up anaemic and with low B12. I’m very early pregnant again now and I’ve been taking Boots own brand pregnancy vitamins since I found out - so far so good!

cherrybl0ssom5 · 11/03/2025 19:23

just echoing everyone else, body didn’t agree with pregnacare at all, my nausea was reduced when taking the multivitamin the midwife gave me

2020N · 11/03/2025 20:53

I take my pregnacare after my evening meal, did it with both pregnancies and had no problems. My morning sickness was worse in the mornings, brushing my teeth was a mission in itself so I definitely wouldn’t have been able to tolerate any vitamins then!

Stick to folic acid and vitamin D. If your bmi is over 30 you will need to see your doctor so they can prescribe a high dose of folic acid, if not you can get them from any pharmacy.
