Reduced movement 30 weeks

Emslouise944 · 09/03/2025 20:57

Please someone help me

I feel like I’m going insane I have had ‘reduced movements’ for over a week. Had a normal growth scan and 3x CTG which did not show much movement at all but was told they’re happy with the baseline etc and that was that. Can movement intensity and patterns change at 30 weeks?! I feel like I can not relax at all. The usual cold drinks orange juice/ something sweet aren’t working like they were before. He was so so active when I woke up in the mornings and that seems to have dropped off. I do still feel him now and again but it’s totally different. Thank you

Movements can reduce when they get short of space - but get checked and don't hesitate to return for a repeat check if you have concerns.

NO NO NO !!!!

THIS IS NOT TRUE AND IS VERY DANGEROUS ADVICE !!!!!!!!

MOVEMENTS DO NOT CHANGE ‘BECAUSE OF SHORTNESS OF SPACE’

problem7 · 09/03/2025 21:01

Go back and check. Every time.

I’d also ask for a second opinion on the lack of movements.

Movements can feel different as they grow but they shouldn’t reduce.

Please don't give advice when you don't know what you're talking about.

@Emslouise944 If you are not sure get checked out.

Emslouise944 · 09/03/2025 21:03

Sorry I should have explained better it’s been a week but within that week I have had a growth scan and 3 CTG’s the last one being today there was no movement until the last 5 minutes of the trace and the doctor said she can see what I mean but she’s happy with the baseline. I feel like I’m going a bit loopy with all this but it’s totally changed pattern wise and the movements are less “aggressive” x

This just is not true.

Any change needs checking. Whether it is less or more movements. - especially if seemingly frantic.

Don't worry about the staff. Decent midwives will always be happy to check for you.

Not true. Movements should never reduce, this is dangerous advice.

PoopingAllTheWay · 09/03/2025 21:05

I would keep going back or even go to a different hospital

Trust your instincts

FALSE!! op please go and get checked out every single time you feel a change. If you're worried, trust your gut

Isthisrealomgwow · 09/03/2025 21:09

Go back, every time!
Ignore the first response, it's total crap.

My midwives said they prefer to check every time. Do not ignore. Ask for a second opinion if you have to.

Songbird54321 · 09/03/2025 21:15

As others have said, go back. Again and again and again.
I had quite a few instances of reduced movement with my second. She was always fine once monitored/scanned but was a bit smaller than she should have been on the growth scans so those factors combined meant I was induced at 37 weeks just to be safe.
You won't regret going back in for peace of mind. You will drive yourself crazy if you don't.

Emslouise944 · 09/03/2025 21:21

I have been and been checked a few times this week including today; the CTG showed no movement until the last 5 minutes but the doctor said she’s happy with the baseline and sent me on my way. I feel so emotional because I feel like it’s so different but the information and explanations given are very uninformative

OP at this point all you can do is continue to go and get monitored every day until things change.

There can be totally innocent reasons, baby position has changed, laying with its back to the belly, moving down etc. But it might also be something else so trust your instincts and keep getting monitored.

I understand that it's a faff going in to the pregnancy unit every day, not sure whether you're at work etc, but keep getting monitored to ensure baby is ok.

Sending you luck! 🍀

A dangerous misconception - not true whatsoever.

Movements should not reduce, regardless of how little space there is. Any change in movements should be checked out.

sel2223 · 09/03/2025 21:39

I had an anterior placenta with my first and really struggled with reduced movements the whole third trimester.

I'm sure they thought I was a right pest by the end but it's too important to ignore when your gut is telling you something isn't right. I didn't feel movements all day every day and could go hours with nothing at all but i had two set periods in the morning and evening which were my constants, if I didn't feel anything at those times i would try the cold drink lying on side trick. If still nothing, then I would ring up, without fail. This was often several times a week.

By 36 weeks, I was put on daily monitoring which basically meant I could just go to the hospital any time I wanted for monitoring without having to call up first.

DD is now a very lively and healthy 4.5 year old so it was all absolutely fine but not something you can take any chances with.

MrsBlob · 09/03/2025 21:42

Midwife here - should still go and get checked if you're concerned, even if you've had to go a few times before.

Sometimes, if you've got an anterior placenta this can affect how you feel the movements. If you look at your scan reports it should say where the placenta is. I'm not of course saying don't act on reduced movements, you should still go in, but this can sometimes be a reason why it is happening.

DeepRoseFish · 09/03/2025 21:46

I went in to be monitored every day for the last week of my pregnancy and would have done it for longer if required. Get your baby checked as much as you need to.

Emslouise944 · 09/03/2025 22:06

Thank you everyone! Placenta is posterior (at the back and high up) it’s just baffling me because all the advise says any changes go in yet I do and I’m told it’s ok. I really appreciate all the responses. I pray it’s normal x

Go get checked. Every single time. I’ve got an underlying condition so pregnancy was high risk high anxiety. I went 5 times with my first and 3 times with my second. 1st was just a lazy little boy. 2nd turned out to have the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck 4 times (they spotted once but didn’t know it was x4 until she was delivered). Getting her checked was absolutely vital. I was never ever made to think i was mithering.

Second was anterior placenta. Felt her moving from 14 weeks. I’m very fat and had loads of scans from conception so had visual confirmation that I was indeed feeling kicks.

More often than not they have a jolly good wriggle as soon as they get hooked up. Better safe than sorry x

Swampdonkey123 · 10/03/2025 08:51

I think in your shoes I'd want a proper explanation of why they are saying such low movements are OK. Given it is such a change, it doesn't make sense.
