pelvic/hip pain whilst in bed

I'm 31 weeks and have SPD or whatever they call it now! I go to bed around 11 at night and by 5am I'm in sooooo much pain that I wake up and have to try and sleep sitting up instead of on my side. I've tried wedging quilts and pillows in between the legs but to no avail. I'm seeing my physio on Thursday but wondered if anyone had any tips between now and then. Baby is lying spine to spine which I'm sure isn't helping!

When I got sore hips during pregnancy, I found that if I got up and walked to the kitchen and back they would be fine and I could sleep again. That seemed to loosen things up. HTH

Put a pillow between your legs. That helped me a lot!
Good luck

my physio told me to squeeze my buttocks in reps of 10 to try and tighten the muscles and help keep the pelvic bones in place - seemed to really help and the pain eased off enough to get relatively comfy at night.

Hi there, i was told to put a doubled up duvet on my side of the bed and sleep on top of that. Also to sleep with a pillow between my legs and one under my bump. i found the combination of these three things really helped. All the best!!

Poor you Gilly. Its awful isn't it. I tried all of the above and nothing helped. Used to get up and sit on all fours for a while trying to loosen up hips by swaying back and forth. Took loads of painkillers (paracetamol only) and would sleep sitting up with lots of heat packs. In the end an osteopath helped.

I go with a pregnancy pillow full length, between knees, under bump etc. It has served me well up until recently (am 39+2). Taking a short walk around the house sounds like a good idea, but I might get distracted and end up on MN or something .

Same advice as others. I've learned an additional tip to help ease the pain when turning over. If I straighten out my legs before turning over it is much less painful - must keep the pelvis better aligned or something
