C-Section Help

Sorry in advance as this will probably be a long post. I’m really struggling to get my head around what my local hospital are doing in terms of arranging my c section. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with 3rd baby and I have gestational diabetes. I am currently taking metformin and insulin to help manage the diabetes. Baby is currently on the 97th centile and approx 6lb 9oz. My first baby weighed 8lb 9oz and second 10lb 4 and suffered shoulder dystocia.

My consultant agreed I could have a c section on 4th April where I would be 39 weeks pregnant. I last had a growth scan this week and was told I wouldn’t need another scan until another 4 weeks time, where I would be 38+3. I contacted the hospital to query why I haven’t received a date for my pre op appointment and it turns out my c section hasn’t been booked at all! It says multiple times in my notes c section booked for 04/04. I was also told that a provisional date had been arranged for my c section on 09/04. Today I’ve received a letter saying I have an obstetrics appointment booked for 09/04. I really do not know what is going on. I really don’t think I can go to 40 weeks given the size of my baby. I’m on the short side and I’m struggling to walk as it is. It seems crazy that I’ll be left 4 weeks between growth scans. Is this normal because something doesn’t feel right to me? Should I be complaining? I don’t want to sound like I’m just nearing the end of my pregnancy and complaining because I’m finding it hard, I’m genuinely struggling day to day and the hospital do know this. Also, I had made childcare arrangements for 4th april and I’m now absolutely screwed as I don’t have a lot of help and no date to be asking for help.

Hey,

I am sorry you're having to go through this, but I would definitely self advocate and get yourself in. For my first baby they did the same. I was even sent home as my C section was elective due to same issue as yourself.
But had my section 2 days later.

I actually suffered with the shoulder dislocating when I was a baby and didn't want my baby to go through the same thing.

Definitely call your consultant and ask for the c section to get booked as agreed 04/04. My hospital had a separate team who handled the bookings and they rang me probably about 35 weeks and offered me a date and then gave me an option to change if I wanted to.

Yes I'd complain and try to speak to your consultant.

My first pregnancy was a csection and they were a bit of a mess. They'd booked my elective csection. But then I needed an emergency csection and they were clueless I ended up waiting 3 days and turns out they all had mixed messages and were waiting for the day of my elective csection

I learnt that they don't always know what they're doing and to push to get what you want

I have followed this up again today with my local hospital. Just to be told there are no c-section dates available at all around my due date!

Contact your community midwife and ask her to help you sort it out.

I am just waiting for a call back from my community midwife team. I’m considering asking to change hospitals at this point but not sure how much of a pain it’ll be at this stage!
