Hi all, 6 weeks and feeling nauseas 24/7 from the second I wake up. Have only been sick twice in the past week. Cannot bare the thought of food, even opening the fridge is a challenge. Any tips or tricks to help? Have tried ginger.. thinking about anti sickness bands but does anyone have any recommendations?

Feeling super guilty that baby is not getting the nutrients it needs.. TIA

I had a terrible sickness that you describe with both pregnancies. My midwife said it was a sign of a healthy pregnancy. Acupuncture bracelets helped a tiny bit. Or maybe it was placebo effect. What has really helped was getting lots of rest. Avoiding fatty foods. On both occasions the sickness miraculously lifted after about 12-14 weeks. I found labour easier than weeks of living like a walking dead. Both children were born healthy. Try not to stress too much and look out for healthy foods you can tolerate. Are you taking folic acid?

@thegoldengirl Ohhh this part really sucks. I was nauseous 24/7 from week 6-15 when it magically went as fast as it came. I’d gag randomly and have waves of sickness but rarely actually vomit. Things that I found helped were:
• eating regularly. Even if it’s only three almonds, just keeping something in my stomach kept the nausea at bay a bit.
• Eating carbs. I know that it’s not the most healthy option and I’ve been good with my eating habits but I had to up the carbohydrate intake massively. Potato (in any form), pasta, rice, lentils, and then sometimes some type of sweets. I think it was keeping the blood sugar higher that curbed the nausea.
•sip water/squash cold through a straw. Slowly. The sudden rush of water used to make me gag if I drank too much at once.
•remember that it’s not forever… and it’s going to be so worth it 💕

Thank you both for the tips! Yes the random gagging and heaving it's like a hangover that won't go away 😭 I am still taking folic acid and vitamin D!

I had a horrible time when pregnant with my son until I found a combination of drugs that helped. In spite of living off Super Noodles, ice-cold water and ice lollies for weeks and weeks across the first/second trimester, as well as not managing any vegetables, vitamins or supplements for months, my son was born large and healthy and has continued to be a robust little chap ever since!

Whilst many, including myself, don't agree with the "baby is a parasite" analogy, it is true that they take what they need from your body. My understanding in my last pregnancy was that I was the one likely to suffer from not eating properly, not my baby! So please don't worry or feel guilty about the little one!

Thank you that is really reassuring. I haven't tried the ice lollies! Maybe now is the time we finally have some sunshine 😊 when did your sickness stop?

Try not to worry about nutrients too much in the first trimester - it's more about survival than anything else!

The most important thing is to not get dehydrated. I found having tiny sips throughout the day were the best I could manage.

Food wise, I think I survived entirely on salt and vinegar crisps, salted crackers and melon. Just have a little of whatever you can keep down - little and often is the key and try not to let yourself get too hungry as that's just as bad.

In my first pregnancy, my sickness lasted from about 7 weeks to 18ish.
Current pregnancy and it started earlier about 5.5 weeks and I'm still throwing up now at 37 weeks! For most women it ends in the second trimester, and some don't have it at all!

The ice lollies were my only source of hydration for weeks! I had them during the winter months and stashed some in the freezer at work once I returned from being signed off 😅

I never came off the medication, actually. I reduced it over time, but after trying to stop entirely around 30 weeks I had a relapse and so I just continued on the lowest dose I could manage with. Even then, I had significant modifications made at work to enable me to stay on until I wanted to go off on mat leave! By 24 weeks, though, the medication meant that I could eat more normally, though I lived off carbs and meat, because I just couldn't cope with fruit and vegetables.

I didn’t have bad nausea but I did have severe reflux from 17 weeks till baby came out. There were only a handful of things I could eat and not be triggered…grilled bacon medallions, pain au chocolat and porridge. Not the most nutritious day but baby was born healthy. In the end I just knew I needed to eat something!

For the nausea it only was bad when I was hungry in first 12 weeks. So I kept cereal bars in my bag for emergencies

This could have been written by me!! Also 6 weeks and struggling with constant nausea. I had all these lovely plans and ideas of what I was going to eat throughout my pregnancy and can't stomach the thought of any of it. I've really had to force myself to eat today. Thankfully haven't puked but I feel like I need to just thinking about food 😞😣.

Take a pregnancy multivitamin.

A fry cracker before I even got out of bed helped me, I took omeprazole and drank gaviscon from the bottle. I found carbonated drinks easier to stomach than water. Nuts & oat cakes.
