PGP is this normal?

I am almost 11 months postpartum and still suffering awful PGP. When I was pregnant it was crippling and it’s not so bad on a day to day basis but if I do any exercise (even a long walk) I’m in agony afterwards.

When I was pregnant I got referred for NHS physio but it was just a video and a phone call.

I ran 2 miles yesterday and I’ve been awake all night with pain. Does this sound normal? Have people had success with a private physio?

Sorry op I can’t help as I’m in the same boat! I’ve had 2 dc in consecutive years and suffered really badly with pgp. It went away quite quickly after ds in 2023 but since having dd in November it’s still painful to walk long distances, difficult to get comfortable etc and I was really hoping it would have gone by now! I hope it goes for you too!!

I had this very badly with my first for a good few years. Eventually i went to a chiropractor and it helped a lot. Plus pilates/core muscle/pelvic floor excercises. Private physio may help as they can tailor for you and have less waiting list. Swimming/walking/floating in water helps a lot just to take weight off pelvis for a bit.

Chiropractor I attend is NSA Chiropractor. Not clicking bones type. Big difference

You need to see a specialist. I would probably go private at this point, but I saw an NHS physio when I was six months pp having been referred at my six week check. She was brilliant - gave me exercises to strengthen my core, back, glutes and thighs, which supports the pelvic area. Things improved quickly.

Six years on I still get twinges if I overdo it, but I go back to doing the exercises for a few weeks and it improves again.

8 months post partum and I still suffer with it. Any walk over 20 minutes leaves me in pain for over 48 hours. Physio only gives temporary relief (1 or 2 hours). I have been told breastfeeding can make the hormones linger for longer.

I have gone private, nothing has helped, and at this point no one really believes me or has any sympathy.

This is quite an old post now, but if anyone is interested I scaled back my exercise and started walking, first aiming for 5000 steps per day then 10,000, I’m now walking a minimum 14,000 per day and have found that my
pelvis, which was agony at first, is much better and I am able to run a few times a week.

Im also now pregnant with DC2, so will be interested to see how it holds up.
