Looking for positive stories and percentages please, daughters school has written home to say slapped cheek is doing the rounds I am 19 weeks tomorrow and have contacted my gp who will ring me today to book the blood test in - my parents don’t think I had it as a child and I am so worried 😢 our little boy I can feel him so I can monitor his movements if we get it - she currently has a runny nose that’s it but could just be a runny nose - I just want reassurance and positive stories please - I am a huge worrier 🤦🏻‍♀️

DS had it when he was just 1 and I was 4 months pg with DD. I went for a blood test and was worried but turns out I has immunity. My mum said most the time we were ill they didn’t know what with just ill and the symptoms are pretty non specific so I can understand why they didn’t know I had had it.

It was a hairy few days though waiting

Tashone · 03/03/2025 16:31

That’s reassuring @Phunkychicken I’m really hoping I’m immune as it’ll take a lot of worry away - we had the chicken pox scare two weeks ago luckily I’m immune but so much is doing the rounds and this one is scary lol and I’m a worrier!

Hi OP, I don't have personal experience myself but I'm a Midwife and IME majority of women who ring up looking for their Parvo serology say they don't think they've ever had it, and end up with an immune result anyway. It seems to be one of those things a lot of us had asymptomatically as children. I hope that's the result you get too!

greentree16 · 03/03/2025 18:51

Hiya, I got tested for this just as I went into my twelfth week. My nephew had been diagnosed and I'd unknowingly spent all weekend around him.

Like you my parents didn't know if I'd had it. Then four days later I came down with an awful cold and thought the worst. I had to wait a week for the results but luckily mine came back positive for immunity and negative for a recent infection.

I'll never know if what my nephew had was actually parvovirus or something else, it was certainly bad timing for me to have picked something up.

17 weeks now and everything is going well so far. I've had a private scan since and everything looked to be on track! Fingers crossed for you x

Hi @remaininghopeful23 and @greentree16 both reassuring - my gp has rang I have a blood test tomorrow morning he said labs are usually back by next day so fingers crossed Wednesday I should know - he did say to me it’s a virus that some children do have so mildly it seems like a cold or that are asymptomatic and lots of people are immune without knowing so fingers crossed!!

Fingers crossed for an immune result🤞🏼 Let us know how you get on!

Tashone · 06/03/2025 16:22

@remaininghopeful23 still no update - gp rang to say results not back yet, honestly the stress is horrific, I’m trying not to stress but my daughters class are dropping like flies with it!

@Tashone Ah no way, I'm so sorry you're still waiting. Has GP given you any idea of timeline?

Tashone · 06/03/2025 16:47

They just rang to say it had to be sent off from our local lab to one about 2/3 hours away for referencing and could take 4-5 days to do I’m hoping that’s 4-5 days from the day I had the blood test (Tuesday morning) and not from today! As knowing the GP it’ll be working days so won’t know till next Thursday if that’s the case! My anxiety can’t take it, I’m trying to rest my mind as worrying and stressing is not helping and next Tuesday I am 20weeks so hopefully out the most dangerous zone, and I may be worrying and be immune for all I know! I’m just a worrier x

I'm not in the UK but where I work the hospital process the bloods themselves. Couple of days turnaround. Is this an option for you or must it be through the GP?

Tashone · 06/03/2025 18:09

I’m not sure - I live in quite a remote part of the uk so it went to our main hospital who can’t reference it so had to go to the nearest bigger hospital who can which is 3 hours away I assume even if I went to the hospital it would be the same outcome

So daughter tonight has got bright red cheeks and a red rash all over the body under the skin so I’m certain she’s got it and is no longer infectious but my sons now snotty so think he has it now - iv likely got it too as I’m not immune got another 20 week scan in 2 weeks (will be 22 weeks) as couldn’t get all measurements and bloods done again then too I’m almost certain I’ll be positive for recent infection - all I can do is have hope baby will be ok and monitored well

@Tashone I'm so sorry you're going through this worrying time. I'm sorry I don't have any advice but just wanted to send strength. Have the hospital been any good with giving information/advice/statistics anything to help you?

TenThousandSpoons00 · 14/03/2025 21:39

Hi - sorry you’re going through this. Overall you’re likely to be absolutely fine, generally it’s more concerning if you get parvovirus yourself at <20 weeks, at >20 weeks now baby’s immune system is more mature and unlikely to be affected. Usually if you are shown to have parvovirus yourself (about 50/50 chance if your daughter has it), then you’d usually get monitoring to look for signs of anemia in baby. If it happens (again unlikely because >20w) it is usually treatable with good outcomes. Have a look at https://ranzcog.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/ASID-Management-Perinatal-Infections.pdf for more detail and numbers, this is Australian but UK guidance is likely to be very similar. All the best.

Tashone · 04/04/2025 16:33

Thought I’d come back and update everyone - had my second blood results back (Daughter had confirmed parvovirus 14th March her rash came out so was infectious before hand) I was convinced there was no way I was going to avoid it - the girl had sneezed on me few days prior!!

well somehow I’m calling miracle lol I have had no past or any recent infection - honestly no idea how because my daughter had it bad rash is only now fading! X
