Morning sickness at 5 weeks

Currently 5 weeks but I’ve been feeling nauseous since 3 weeks (which i didn’t think was possible!) It has slowly been getting worse. I’ve been following tips I have read online, not letting myself get an empty stomach, having a snack as soon as I wake up, cold water small sips etc. and it has helped a little I’ve not thrown up but have come close one or twice.
Is this likely to get much worse? I’m scared of getting really sick and vomiting lots especially as I would like to avoid telling where I work until I’m out of the first trimester.
Anyone else had morning sickness this early and how did it turn out?

Argh that does seem early, I hope it doesn’t last too long for you!
This probably is very unhelpful but I was horrendously sick from weeks 7-13 (xonvea prescribed by the doctor is a big help!). I’m currently 16 weeks and I have been much better the last three weeks but not perfect. Still get queasy every now and then, and am sick around once every four days, but it’s MUCH better than I was a few weeks ago!

Thanks for the reply. Did it come on quickly for you at 7 weeks or was it a slow increase? Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better and good to know medication helped you 😊

I’ve been nauseous since a bit before 5 weeks and then had a break at 6 weeks for a couple of days and now still nauseous at 7 weeks. The intensity has only slightly increased and I’m mainly nauseous in the morning and night.

Thanks that's good to know. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse for you 🤞🏼

For a few days before I felt a little queasy and off my food, and then I had a little sick on a Monday morning but was fine the rest of the day, same again on the Tuesday, but then on the Wednesday (1st Jan- great start to the year!) it hit me like a ton of bricks and was being sick multiple times a day and felt awful. I hope it doesn’t happen to you, but if it does, definitely get some medication and just keep the faith that it will get better, even though at the time it doesn’t feel like it!

Not what u want to hear but with my first pregnancy I was sick from 5 weeks till 2 hours after he was born at 36 weeks. In the whole 31 weeks there were only 7 days I didn't vomit. It was a horrible time.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 28/02/2025 20:28

I felt so sick that I took a test before I'd even skipped a period!

I felt hideous until about 12 weeks, but the peak was probably 7/8.

If it helps I was never actually sick either; it's just the constant nausea and the fear of it, I remember it well!

Really freezing cold Diet Coke and viciously vinegary crisps saved my life 🤣

Ummm yes I’m afraid I was sick from before 4 weeks until the babies were born both times. It was pretty awful. Probably worst from 8-20 weeks. Everyone is different though. I hope yours doesn’t get worse.

I found mine would intensify, then settle for a couple of days, then increase again in the early days (to do with hormone levels doubling I think).

My morning sickness started the day I was 5 weeks, had a normal day, went for tea at my parents as exh was on afternoons, went home & started throwing up, no warning. For 4 weeks it would follow the same pattern, I would fancy something to eat, eat it & be throwing up within an hour, never in a morning, only at teatime. I started living on plain boiled pasta & rice & by 10 weeks it passed. Keep some dry biscuits with you, I lived on shortbread & Nice biscuits, drink peppermint tea & invest in travel sickness bands, I only took mine off to dive in the shower, as soon as I was out, they went back on. Keep some biscuits & Lucozade at the side of your bed, I found that when my blood sugar dropped, the nausea started.

I had mild nausea at 3.5 weeks with my last pregnancy. It got slightly worse until 8ish weeks, but it was never terrible.
I snacked constantly, drank vast amounts of mint tea and wore travel sickness bands. I think that sometimes, the fear that it might get worse can exacerbate the feeling of sickness.
I also found that taking a pregnancy vitamin containing B6 and B12 helped.

Congrats 🤗
