22 weeks and no baby movement? - front placenta

Hi,
I need advice... I am 22 weeks pregnant and I still feel no movement, or I can’t really tell - when I had my 20 weeks midwife appt they mentioned my placenta was at the front, so I have been waiting for the baby to get bigger to start feeling something. I don't know if I should contact maternity unit or wait a bit longer, has anyone here had the placenta at the front and when did you start feeling something?
Help please!

I assume you mean you have an anterior placenta? Is this your 1st baby? With my 1st I also had an anterior placenta and first movements I felt were 22+5.

It is a worry though. I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby, anterior placenta again and so far I've had no movements either x

I had an anterior placenta and didn't start to feel definite movements until around 22 weeks, it's possible I had felt flutterings prior to this but they were so faint that it was hard to tell if they were baby movements or wishful thinking on my part. My consultant advised me that it was normal not to feel first movements until 24 weeks and that an anterior placenta can make feeling early movements more difficult but that I should contact triage if I'd felt nothing by 24 weeks. Best of luck and please try not to worry. Once I did start feeling movements our baby was moving around constantly for the rest of pregnancy and is now a very lively and delightful 7 week old.

It'll probably be any day now - I had an anterior placenta with my first and was almost 23 weeks when I felt movements.

Anything between 16 and 24 weeks is considered normal

I was 22-23weeks when I first felt movement in my last pregnancy with an anterior placenta, even then in that first week or two it was maybe twice a week before it became more distinct and regular by about 26 weeks. During that pregnancy I was even working from home so I had a lot of sit down time mixed with occasional walks for exercise. So I wasn’t rushed or too busy to notice.

Exactly the same for me! It was a good month after the first few movements when I started to feel anything regular.

Anterior placenta here as well withy first and didn't feel anything until the 23 week point but if it's reassurance you need them no harm putting your mind at rest but I'd say you'll feel your baby any day now

Thank you so much, this is so helpful :)

I had an anterior placenta with my first and was very late feeling movements. I'd say 28 weeks ish. Maybe later than that.

Our unit won't consider baby movements until 24 weeks but its always worth phoning and asking for their advise. They were always helpful on giving advise and reassuring me when I had questions.

Did you read her OP properly? She hasn't felt any movement AT ALL YET due to the placenta. I don't know why you've tried to scare her talking about risking her babies life.

If your placenta is at the front your unlikely to feel much until baby is a lot bigger. You'll more than likely feel it at the back first. My placenta was at the front with DS and it was around 26 weeks I started being able to feel him at the front, but no where near as strong as I could with DD

StampOnTheGround · 28/02/2025 13:34

I was somewhere between 22-23 weeks before I felt anything with an anterior placenta! 😊

SophieRules · 28/02/2025 18:09

23 weeks and I only feel weak twinges, it is worrying, but I do hear this happens sometimes with an anterior placenta, so threads like this help me to feel ok. Patiently waiting for stronger sensations.

SophieRules · 28/02/2025 18:15

I just wanted to check in terms of movements? At 23 weeks they are weak and I would say they are what I would think flutters, quickening would feel like. When did you feel like you could literally feel your baby moving/kicking etc ?

Cornishmumofone · 28/02/2025 18:18

I had an anterior placenta and can't say I ever felt my baby move 🥺

Christmashope19 · 28/02/2025 18:33

With my first pregnancy I didn’t feel any movements until 27 weeks!!
try not to worry xx

Honestly, mine were pretty weak all the way through.

They did get a bit stronger and more regular than the first initial flutters but never enough to be able to see or feel from the outside.

I was in quite a lot with reduced movements in the third trimester and was even put on daily monitoring at the end of my pregnancy. I had extra scans and she'd be moving around like crazy on the screen yet I couldn't feel a thing!

She's now a very active and healthy 4.5 year old.
