planned c section or vbac?

thats the million dollar question :-)

pregnant with #2 and had a planned section for baby #1 - this was due to babies size (not only their size but because of his size they suspected GD, was later confirmed with HB1AC test i didnt have GD) and they were concerned around shoulder dystocia with potentially uncontrolled GD.

Section went well and recovery was swift and smooth.

For baby 2 i am scheduled for growth scans to check on size, had an HB1AC blood test at 12weeks (all ok) and will be getting a GTT in the coming weeks to check for GD (even though I didnt have it last time and i still dont mean any risk criteria they want to rule it out).

Consultant is happy for either a vbac if section #2. I dont want induced and of course the worst case scenario which you cant plan for is trying naturally then getting a section anyway.

Whats others experiences?

My reasons are different but with my first it was emcs - whilst waiting to be induced at 35 weeks. So far I wouldn’t have an essential reason for a csection it would be my choice. That could change though (preeclampsia and baby got very stressed at 35 weeks).

I went into the pregnancy saying I would try vbac. By 14 weeks I narrowed that down to stating no induction, so only vbac if I went into labour naturally. (I didn’t like the odds of a rupture with induction, plus I know what a csection is like).

By 30 weeks I said ‘if I go into labour naturally I will try, but otherwise I will ask for a csection’ whenever I mentioned this decision the midwife was negative about it saying if I book a csection it would likely be around 39 weeks and I potentially wouldn’t go into labour by then.

Now I’m 32 weeks and yesterday I booked in my csection date. I still have the same mindset that if I go into labour naturally I’m willing to try (I think) however it’s booked for 39 weeks and I’m looking forward to that week now as a point to aim for.

They wanted to schedule me in for a section at 40 weeks but I asked them to leave me until 41 weeks to try for a VBAC. I went into labour at 40+6 and ended up needing a section anyway, but it was a much calmer section than my first emergency as I'd been expecting it the following day anyway.
