Is it on this list? No? Don't worry.

It's not ok... it's February. Why are you getting a mr whippy in winter?

Ellemay12 · 22/02/2025 17:57

Why not? It’s actually been quiet warm today..

Dearover · 22/02/2025 17:58

So why are you fretting about eating an ice cream then?

Ellemay12 · 22/02/2025 17:58

If I asked for you rudeness I would have said so. It was a general question!!!! It’s my first pregnancy and completely forgot to even check if I could eat ice cream from the ice cream van!

OP posts:
Ellemay12 · 22/02/2025 17:59

Because I’ve read in multiple places it’s not ok! It was just a general question.. this site is supposed to be kind comments only..

In all seriousness, I suggest you avoid Tik Tok, Instagram, FB and all other forms of social media going forward, but eat what you fancy within reason (see above).

BobbyBiscuits · 22/02/2025 18:00

Ice cream from the van machine is just made of vegetable fat, dried skimmed milk powder, sugar and emulsifiers/stabilisers. I hate the way it doesn't melt?! But it's not dangerous in pregnancy.

Pastelhp · 22/02/2025 18:02

Wow some really rude replies here OP, absolutely no need!
I know what you mean, I’m in my first pregnancy and have been told by multiple sources to not eat whippy ice cream due to the listeria risk. That being said, if you’ve already had it I wouldn’t worry too much - it’s just a precaution more than anything

Dearover · 22/02/2025 18:03

There really is nothing to check, especially after you've eaten it. Enjoy having a baby & don't worry.

Ellemay12 · 22/02/2025 18:03

Thank you so much for being kind! I’m just a really anxious person anyway!

That will be a far greater risk to your health, so try to relax about the small stuff.

Wow. Why bother posting? Is it just to be crappy?

people want to come on here to get reassurance and advice and this is your response.

i find MN getting more and more nasty for no reason and people just coming on here to be rude and mean for literally no reason!

even the pregnancy forum can be cruel again for no reason

Why be so nasty? It’s true that those machines can harbour listeria but it’s less likely these days due to hygiene standards.

It’s about the listeria risk if the machine isn’t cleaned properly.

Listeria from the machine.

Ellemay12 · 22/02/2025 18:14

Thank you so much for being kind! It won’t let me pm your privately but I really appreciate it. I honestly can’t stand rude people

SarahLHs · 22/02/2025 18:27

I was advised to try and avoid because they can't clean the machines properly so could contain listeria bacteria, but it's extremely unlikely so I had a few when I was really craving them in the summer months!

JC03745 · 22/02/2025 18:28

I'm sorry OP that you've had some nasty replies.

Guidance differs between countries. My 1st pregnancy was abroad and their guidance was to avoid all soft serve due to the risk of listeria- even if pasteurised milk. Especially in van type set ups where the cleaning regime might be far more lax than say a McDonalds. I'm more conscious after a cousin contracted listeria at 25weeks, lost the baby and nearly lost her own life. She has no idea where she caught it from.

The UK guidance is less stringent than where I lived, but when I was pregnant in the UK, I avoided any soft serve.
You can't change that now OP. Hopefully it was yummy and all is well with the rest of your pregnancy.

Ellemay12 · 22/02/2025 18:28

Thank you lovely! I only had like 5 mouthfuls but just an anxious person and didn’t really think when ordering/eating it

BobbyBiscuits · 22/02/2025 18:29

@User79853257976 ah, fair enough. I'd say it'll be alright though.

LovingMamaWifeTeacher · 22/02/2025 19:31

At my booking appt, my midwife said soft serve has been added to the list of things to enjoy. She stressed that McFlurrys etc were actually the ones to avoid. It’s done now so you can’t do much to change it, so please don’t worry too much. Just thought I’d share what she said to me xx

SErunner · 22/02/2025 20:09

I wouldn't worry as a one off, but no the mr whippy ice cream you're not supposed to have in pregnancy as it carries a higher risk of listeria. The risk is still small, but given you can have all the other types probably not worth it. I wouldn't worry about this occasion but try and avoid in future.

Ellemay12 · 22/02/2025 20:10

Thanks lovely! Xx
