Hi. I think I’m just looking for some reassurance or support or to hear I’m not the only one in this position.

last January my husband and I fell pregnant (first month of trying) dream come true. I knew I was pregnant a week before I started to experience some pain. No bleeding and when I say pain it was more uncomfortable rather than painful. Anyway. Long story short I had an ectopic pregnancy which had ruptured and was bleeding into my abdomen (according to the app I would have only been 5 weeks). Which resulted in a left tube removal. Along with a lot of blood! The surgeon also mentioned in my anaesthetic daze that I’d got a bicornuate uterus which can lead to miscarriage (and promptly left without further explanation) but he didn’t document that anywhere nor was it on any records.

fast forward a year of trying and NOTHING! And we were over the moon to find out we were pregnant again the following January. Of course anxiety set in again around ectopic but on our first scan at 5weeks4days they informed us little bean was in the right place but that it was too early to see heartbeat so was booked another scan exactly two weeks later. The morning of that scan I started bleeding and had some low level cramps. We had fully prepped ourselves to have lost this baby as naively I thought bleeding just meant miscarriage. However to our surprise when scanned baby had progressed and had a heartbeat. The following day the cramps and bleeding got worse and I felt like I had passed the pregnancy tissue. Due to hospital policy they then couldn’t scan me for a whole week. On that scan they informed me that the baby no longer has a heartbeat but I had not passed the baby. I’ve now had four doses 3 orally and 1 vaginally of misoprostal which haven’t worked and although I was trying to avoid surgery. It’s looking like my only option.

I'm absolutely devastated and extremely scared of what the future holds for our dreams of a big family.

couple of things. Has anyone experiences similar to this that have happier endings?
has anyone else had any conflicting information regarding a bicornuate uterus?
has anyone had the D&C surgery and is it a safe option. (Considering it might be my only option).

Thank you in advance.

Hi @KAT675 I'm so sorry for your losses. Its absolutely devastating. I recently had a D&C after a missed miscarriage. I opted for surgery as I had done some research and read a lot of stories about failed medical management and needing surgery anyway. I felt surgery was the most controlled option for me. So far so good. Minimal bleeding and pain and I'm awaiting my period to return. I am on other threads on MN where women have gone on to get pregnant after a D&C. Hopefully someone else will come along with more advice x

Hi, so sorry you are going through this.

I have a bicornuate uterus.

I had 2 miscarriages, then got pregnant with my daughter. I had a rough pregnancy with lots of threatened miscarriages...bled the whole time with some scary big bleeds...but then delivered a healthy bundle of joy who is now 15. A year later I had a smooth pregnancy with my son who is now 14.

I didn't think it would happen for us after the first 2 miscarriages...but we got our family afterall... fingers crossed for you too!

I have a slight bicorn uterus.
Didn't even know it until my 2nd child and they were measuring lots due to my first being small.
The only issue I faced was my first child being breech and had difficulty turning due to the shape of the uterus. Had a manual flip and all good. Second child decided to grow head down and so didn't have this problem!
I don't think it has much impact on the miscarriages? I've put all mine down to just one of those things that happen
Fingers crossed for you op

i’m so sorry for your loss.
We’ve literally had the same experience. I also had a chemical in november but since then haven’t fallen pregnant since.
im a midwife so have asked a lot of questions to the drs at work but they’ve all reassured me the shape of the uterus will not effect
Sending you baby dust & love xx

I have a bi cornurate uterus as well. Have had multiple misscarriges. 2 living children. Currently pregnant at 26 weeks. Not much we can do about it higher risk of growth restriction and pre term birth so I'm being monitored. I missed your age but it's a good idea to get some testing NHS and private. His sperm as well.

Thank you for your response. Testing in terms of what? The bicournuate or the ectopic and miscarriages. I’m 28

Bloods, thyroid. I haven't had an ectopic so can't advise there.
