Prepare for the possibility that either the induction itself will take a while or that you'll be waiting around for a bed on labour ward. Take things to keep you entertained, take ear plugs as it's noisy on the induction ward, nice snacks to have, your own pillow. You can spend large chunks of time on the monitor when needed which can give you a numb bottom, so having your own pillow can just help to make you more comfortable. Hope all goes well and it's nice and speedy.

Take a handheld fan, thank me later! Good luck ☺️

I second the hand held fan! Take whatever you need to make yourself comfortable. I took loads of maternity pads for bleeding after labour but it turned out the maternity ward just gave them out, as many as you needed. Maybe check what little things like that they supply before you go in. I took a few things I didn't need that took up room in my bag. Good luck! xx

Why s a re you being induced? How many weeks are you?

I was dreading mine but it wasn't half as bad as I thought it was going to be. I didn't get to the drip stage but had decided I would have an epidural if I did as I've heard it's very painful.
Go with flow, trust your body and you will have your baby very soon ❤️

I was induced with my first.
The pessary hurt quite a bit, that needed some deep breathing to get through.
Then nothing for a few hours so I sat reading magazines and wandered off for a walk.
Then it was extremely intense for a while.
I had all the drugs, the only one that helped was gas and air (failed epidural).
Baby needed help coming out after 29 hours of labour so I agreed to a ventouse (like a suction cup attached to baby’s head).

It wasn’t a great experience but I don’t have anything to compare it to so it might be just a normal labour experience?

Just breathe. Deep slow breaths and gas and air are the only things that actually helped me keep focused.
Good luck ❤️ x

Yes take a fan! Sweets to suck on, and other snacks. Books to read for the beginning part. Ear plugs is a must, it gets loud. And walk as much as you can. Get out of there and walk. Take a tense machine to help with pain in the beginning and a comb to squeeze. Wireless headphones are good too to listen to relaxing things and drown all the environmental noise out. Keep those endorphins running to help your labour progress. Practice your breathing techniques for the pessarie (the first part of induction) and expect a possible wait. I went in Saturday 9:30am didn’t have my son until Monday 9:45pm ended in c section which went very smoothly and the team were fun and happy, they dimmed the lights and played music, but I had to ask for this.

good luck hunny. Some people i know, are in and done within 10 hours! So you can never really know.

Hi, I was induced with my second, went it at 9am had the pessary. Kept moving around, went for a walk etc, contractions started but it was slow moving, I then had the drip and baby came naturally at 9:20 so wasn't too bad. I second the tense machine, hand held fan too and snacks. Good luck!

I was induced with my second at 39 weeks. Absolutely fine, they actually just did a cervix check and I was 2cm so they managed to pop my waters which started my labour pretty much immediately. 4 hours later he arrived :)

I was induced, I went in on Monday and had my baby on Saturday (induction failed) so bear in mind you may be there quite a while! I packed my own pillow, ear plugs and ear phones, loads of snacks and bottles of water, books etc. It is very tiring as you don't get much sleep on the prenatal (or postnatal!) wards, try and nap in the day as and when you can. My tens machine and exercise ball were invaluable.

I had 3 gels and then a balloon catheter, none worked for me but I don't think this is that common. I found the checks very painful, accept the gas and air if they offer it. I agree with doing lots of walking and getting fresh air if you can.

All of the midwives and staff were absolutely lovely and though it was a frustrating and lengthy time, it wasn't an awful experience.

Good luck and congratulations! X
