Hello!

has anybody got any pram suggestions for an active family with a labrador? And is it best to get a car seat included that can clip onto the pram?

thanks x

Don't get a Nuna, they're overpriced rubbish.

More widely, don't feel that you need to get a whole travel system. They're mostly just large and unwieldy.

If I could go back I'd get a yoyo with the newborn attachment, as we are very urban and a nifty lightweight pushchair is great for us. Also useful for air travel as you fold the pushchair and put it in the overhead cabin.

You've mentioned you have a labrador and are active so you might need a more nimble pushchair - maybe others can come along with suggestions.

The Mountain Buggy is the one all the big walkers seem to get round our way.

Babies are restricted to how long they can stay in a car seat so I think once in 4 years of parenting 2 children have I put the car seat on the pram frame. I wouldn't say it's an essential. I don't have an adapter for my current pram. I'd probably be looking at 3 wheelers if you off-road a lot. That said my bugaboo donkey does admirably when we walk the dogs though it's more grass field than off the beaten track. We use the carrier for that type of walk.

We love our Nuna. Our house has 8 steps to the front door and it has been invaluable. We use it on winding walks in the Brecon Beacons with the dog and baby has been very happy (and fast asleep!).

Only a three wheel buggy will cope with very off- road like terrain.

As for the car seat clips, I've used them about twice. More hassle than it's worth, for the sake of two seconds it's much easier to put them in the pram/ buggy properly. I've seen people carting babies about endlessly all day in the car seats and it doesn't look comfy for them at all!

We have used the Baby Jogger City Mini GT for ours kids, it is almost 6 years old and still gets used regularly, been on planes and all sorts of terrain, and inner city. Wouldn't change it if we went through it all again.

If you are outdoorsy I'd recommend an out n about. We had a Nuna mixx but it wasn't off-roady enough for decent walks, was very heavy to get in and out of the boot and was very big in little shops and cafes.
The mountain buggy is also very good but much bigger and heavier.

Prams that are good for walking:

Mamas and Papas Ocarro.

Bugaboo Fox.

Out n About Nipper.

Car seat is useful if you'll be nipping out to the shops with the baby. Think babies aren't meant to stay in car seats longer than 90 minutes, so not that useful for long walks.

Saying that, I bought a travel system because it worked out cheaper than buying the car seat seperately. You can get some good "bundles" online.

I would also look at baby carriers; much easier for dog walks than a pram. Some of my friends didn't use a pram at all for first few months.

Bugaboo Fox. Big sturdy wheels. Soooo comfortable for long walks!

Out and about is really good versatile all terrain puchchair also the Haulk runner is a cheaper option still robust and all terrain

Definitely a 3-wheeler for anything off-road.

I got a mountain buggy swift, because it was the lightest, it handles beautiful, but I don't know if they are suitable from birth (I'm guessing not)

I also had a smarter pram for everyday where I didn't want to turn up with a pushchair covered in mud.

Now my child is older I use the mountain buggy for everything including abroad as I'm fairly active on holiday (you'll have to stand your ground with the airline staff, but it does fit in the overhead lockers when I've flown).
I got rid of the pram after a while because I just preferred the MB.

I'd second a carrier. Easy to put on, keeps baby out of reach from others/ dogs, doesn't get muddy or take up boot space. My baby has only been in a pushchair about 10 times and they're now 11m. I've found it so much easier. Also substantially cheaper
