Too early to set things up?

So I'm 35+3 today and we've just bought a house. We've been camping out downstairs as we're getting the carpets fitted today so I'm honestly buzzing to be able to nest as we've been living out of boxes for the last few months!!

We'll be in our bedroom for the first night tonight. My question is - how early is too early to set things up for baby? So the next to me crib, changing table, etc?

I feel like baby could come at any time so I'm eager to get going!!! 😂

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and in almost exactly the same position!
Got the keys to our new house last week, had new carpets, decorating etc done then tonight will be our first night actually staying in the house!
I've got so many boxes and piles of stuff ready for baby, just wondering when is the appropriate time to 'set it all up'

Whenever you want. Some set it up really early - like 20 weeks. I didn't do anything as I had loads of complications and felt like I was jinxing it.

I'd get the car seat base fitted in your car - you don't want to be doing that in a panic. And know how to put the car seat on and off.

I wouldn't set up the next to me - we got a really easy to set up one that came with a travel bag. If we had then it would just have made getting in and out of bed harder for me right when it was hardest to move. Anything in babies room is fair game whenever.

Really you don't need much immediately. If the house is all boxes sort out YOUR stuff. Kitchen, living room, your bed, your clothes. That's what will make a difference in the early days. You can put a changing mat down anywhere to change baby, but having zero idea where in several boxes your clothes or prematernity underwear are will be annoying. You won't need to go in the nursery much, the baby will be with you. No point that all being beautifully set up while you're sat in the living room scared of tripping over all the boxes around you in there.

So it's less fun, but nest your stuff first. Get to the baby stuff after, focusing on the initial things.

Whenever you want. If it's up a long time it'll need a dust and clean sheets etc before baby arrives. Go steady on fitting the car seat. Any part that is fitted (seat or base) will need replacing if you have an accident and that could be before you've ever used it. Try it by all means but don't fit it before you need it

Make sure you air out the house really well every day until the baby comes if you’ve been painting and fitting brand new carpets, buying new furniture etc - brand new textiles and furniture are treated with flame retardants that can off-gas toxic chemicals.
You don’t want to be breathing these in or the baby either.
Otherwise I agree that you should get your stuff sorted and out of boxes before setting up furniture for the baby although you could get your hospital bag ready plus baby’s clothes for the first few weeks. Good luck!

We moved house at 38 weeks in my first pregnancy and the baby stuff was the first stuff unpacked.

I'm now 32 weeks with my second and the Next to Me etc has all been up for a week or so now - both to help the toddler get used to it all, and just incase baby makes an early appearance!

Congrats on the house and the baby OP! I think I was about 37 weeks when I set it all up. I was keen to see how the layout and space would look, how much I'd need to move my bed to make the next to me fit etc. I dont think theres a wrong time, whatever you're comfortable with. But would recommend not securing the crib to your bed until baby is here as if makes it more difficult to get in and out of bed, not ideal in the final few weeks of pregnancy😅 maybe leave it in baby's room for now once it's built. As it turned out I had an unplanned c section and couldn't use the bedside crib secured to my bed because I couldn't bear the pain of stuffing down the bed. so I tell everyone not to secure it, and leave it zipped up as a separate crib until after the birth. (Info you did not ask for but I pass on to my friends😂).
