Help how do I tell my work I'm pregnant

Hey everyone,
I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant and started my new job in September 2024 as an assistant head/SENDCO. I am not class based.
I have had no gaps in employment and worked consecutively in education since graduating in 2015.
Pregnancy wasn't expected but we are thrilled. I am just really worried about telling my work because I'm not sure whether I'll be entitled to maternity pay or even being able to return to my job as I've not been there a year.
A friend said I should be ok as my due date isn't until 16th sep and therefore technically I don't need to go on maternity until like 6th September so I will have been there a year.
Just need some advice please if anyone has any xx

Congratulations!
In terms of qualifying - if your employer offers enhanced maternity pay, you will have to check your policy as it differs employer to employer - mine is 2 years for example before we can get the enhanced package.
For SMP, you need to have worked for your employer for 26 weeks by your qualifying week, which is the 15th week before your due date.
If you don’t qualify for SMP through work, you can always claim maternity allowance through DWP.

Hi,
Congratulations :)
I think it may depend from school to school but I believe it it’s generally a year before going on maternity. Book a meeting with the head, hopefully they will be nice and give you their standard maternity package, but I don’t think they are obliged to if it is before a year. Perhaps their maternity policy is available for you look at?
