Hiya everyone, I made a thread a few weeks ago about my consultant appt that left me feeling confused. It was about how I will need growth scans and a possible C section.
Fast forward a few weeks, I had my first growth scan last Thursday (28w4d) and the lovely sonographer started measuring baby boy, she said "oh baby has a big head", we laughed and thought nothing of it. She then said "oh and his tummy is quite big as well". She measured the fluid around him and mentioned that it was low. This was quite worrying for me as I'm a FTM, she said that I will need a glucose test as it looks as if I have GD.
I received my scan report and he was estimated to be 3lb4oz! Is that big for under 29 weeks? 😂And he is also measuring the 97th percentile.
All of this is new to me, so I don't fully understand it all. Instead of scans every 4 weeks, I now have them weekly for the foreseeable and I have another consultant appointment today.
Has anyone been in the same or similar boat? How did it play out for you? Is there anything I should prepare for etc?

I'm just slightly worried, especially about the fluid around baby

I’m not sure this is particularly helpful as I haven’t gone through it yet, I’m at a similar stage to you, but if it provides any reassurance knowing you’re not alone, I’m 32 weeks and our baby is on 97th percentile too.

I would definitely recommend getting a range of opinions. The consultants and sonographers have had quite a different view to my midwife for example which has helped me to feel much less panicky about it.

There’s also still time for the baby to change its course slightly. Ours was 97th percentile at one scan and the next 93% so it could vary across your pregnancy too!

As I say, not sure that’s much help but I was feeling so overwhelmed with what it meant for labour etc and feel so much better knowing now that there are so many other factors - the scans aren’t always accurate etc.

Good luck xx

That is helpful to know... I understand scans aren't always 100% accurate, it was just quite worrying to know he is quite big for 28 weeks and the fluid around him is low.
Hopefully today I can get another opinion, then I have another scan tomorrow.

Good luck in your pregnancy too xx

Sorry I can't be much help about fluid as mines always measured fine but I'm a first time mum to estimated big baby too.

My growth scans went a little like this
27 weeks - 3lb
32 weeks - 5lb5
34 weeks - 6lb7
36 weeks - 7lb8
38 weeks - 10lb

I've chose to have little one by elective section which is next Wednesday at 39+3

In my experience, nothing was really spoke about how to birth him until 36 weeks as they wanted to make sure he didn't slow growth and I could try vaginal birth (I wasn't pushed to section but was advised an induction which I declined) instrumental delivery chance was really high for a first time mum with a big baby which really scares me so I just went straight for the section. All the midwife's I've seen say they've seen plenty of ftm birth huge baby's fine vaginally but it's not something I feel comfortable with myself. I'm glad there keeping a close eye on your fluid levels. Try not to worry too much and just be open to the fact that a section or induction may be needed if fluid gets to low etc. I've had 3 GTT all negative, I was convinced I had it so bought a blood machine from boots to test at home and I definitely do not have it.

I can't fault the nhs care I've received throughout this tbh. All id say is ALWAYS chase results. Every bloods and glucose test call them and double check the results. I've heard of a lot of people being told if there's a reason to contact they will but they've had their gestational diabetes missed due to not being contacted. Follow baby's movements closely as that will likely be the biggest indicator if hes struggling, don't be hesitant to get checked out (I always was as I felt like a burden!) I don't care anymore. He's my baby and it's the midwife's job to check there okay and reassure you - you'll likely never see them again after so oh well!

Welcome to big baby club - when you get to my stage you'll have their big bum cheeks sticking out of you permanently! It always makes me laugh..I poke his bum to get him to move , he hates it😂😂

Good luck🤍

This is so lovely and helpful, thank you!
I am open to the possibility of having an ELCS now, although I would still love to have a vaginal birth, but I know it may not be possible. I just want him here 😂
I've not yet had my glucose test as they want to see how tomorrows scan is and then they will get me in to have one. I agree, the care I have had with this has been fantastic, the lady who did the scan knew I was nervous so gave me 10 photos of our not so little one which was a nice gesture.
I will definitely ask a lot of questions today, and also what will happen regarding my fluid level.

Wishing you the best next week! x
