Hey guys, so I’m 17 weeks pregnant currently and I’ve been helping my sister with her newborn baby over the past week, I’ve been with them for most the day everyday for the last week. Her midwife came to visit today and she told her that she was positive for MRSA, they checked it I think the day before her c-section? I’m quite worried now as I’ve been with her so much over the past week, will this have done any harm to my unborn baby? Do I need to contact my GP or anything? I’m worried

Yes tell your midwife as soon as you can. It can spread via skin to skin contact or contaminated objects like towels/razors etc.

It's treatable and there are no known birth defects associated so please try not to worry too much OP but definitely get medical advice and testing so they can put a plan in place if you're unwell.

Thank you so much, there’s nothing to be worried about then? I will definitely tell my midwife today.

Its not contagious via air, and it can only affect you if you have a cut on the skin. If you wash your hands regularly and have not cuts or abrasions on your skin you are safe. I had MSSA and was told you can't catch it and you're safe if you practice proper handwashing and don't have cuts or abrasions.
